The Many Things to See and Do in McCurtain County
Welcome to McCurtain County. Located in the southeastern corner of Oklahoma, McCurtain County offers over 535,000 acres of land that is available for public us. Many of the lands in McCurtain County are managed for recreation. Visitors can expect adventure in many forms.
Outdoor enthusiasts flock to McCurtain County as often as the migratory waterfowl that stop at the Little River National Wildlife Refuge and Red Slough wetland. Hunters and anglers enjoy a wide choice of areas and species. Fish the Mountain Fork River or nearby Broken Bow Lake for state record trophy fish. The Glover River beckons the angler yearning for a wild experience and offers a great reward for their efforts. During appropriate seasons, hunters find plentiful wildlife such as white-tailed deer and Eastern wild turkey to challenge their skills. Remember to obtain a valid Oklahoma hunting or fishing license and all required permits before heading out (Land Access Permits are a must). All Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation rules and regulations must be followed when hunting or fishing.
Hiking, birdwatching, horseback riding, and mountain biking are popular pastimes on public lands across the country. The lands here offer wild and untamed opportunities for adventures as well as serene and peaceful strolls to get away from it all. Conquer the mountain in front of you or relax on the porch of a rustic cabin and watch the wind blow by. This is where the Ouachita Mountains begin!
