Bertie Lavonia Darity, 1921 - 2006

      Bertie Lavonia Darity, 85, of Eagletown, was called home to heaven on October 29, 2006. She was born March 21, 1921, in Shinewell, OK, the daughter of Ben and Hattie (Jones) Vandiver.
     Bertie graduated from Haworth High School in Durant. She worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City during World War II. She then taught thirty-four years for the Eagletown School District, two years at Willis Springs, three years at Hochatown, and thirty years in fourth grade at Eagletown Elementary.
     Bertie was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Eagletown, and served as song leader and Sunday school teacher for many years. Following her retirement she worked with the Eagletown Senior Citizens as long as her health permitted. She loved gardening, teaching, her students, church, and spending time with her family.
      She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Minnie Wright; parents, Ben and Hattie Vandiver; her husband of forty-six years, Milton (Mutt) Darity; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.
      Bertie leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Jeanette Simpson and husband Sherrill, Eagletown, and Carol Graham, Oak Hill; grandchildren, Milton R. Simpson, Eagletown, and Terri Powers, Idabel; and great granddaughters, Blakely Frazier Smith and Cheyenna Powers, Idabel.
      Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at the Eagletown School Gymnasium, Eagletown, OK. Rev. Tommy McCaig will officiate. Interment will follow at Eagletown Cemetery, Eagletown, OK.

Grace Mayer Johnson, 1910 - 2006

     Grace Mayer Johnson, 96, of Idabel, OK passed away October 25, 2006 in Idabel. Grace was born October 3, 1910 at Valliant OK. She was the last surviving child of ten children, born to Emanuel Phillip Stuart and Alice Mae Stuart.
      Grace graduated from Oklahoma A and M. After graduation, she worked for the Farm Security Administration. However, most of her working career was in the school teaching profession in McCurtain County, where she taught for more than 20 years. Grace was a member of the By Pass Church of Christ in Idabel.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her first husband, Raggon Mayer and second husband, Elbert Johnson.
     Surviors include two sons; Charles Mayer of Mercedes, Texas and Raggon Mayer, of Dallas, Texas, and three grandchildren.
     Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 28, at the By Pass Church of Christ with Jim Mashburn officiating. Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery, Idabel, under the direction of Jim Norwood Funeral Home.

Connie Ray (Bo) Fairless, 1948 - 2006

     Connie Ray (Bo) Fairless, 58, of Pickens, passed away October 24, 2006. He was born August 27, 1948, in Brushy Ridge, OK, the son of Henry and Ethel (Savage) Fairless.
     Bo was a veteran who served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He married Florena Mae Battiest on March 28, 1992 in Bethel, OK. Bo liked to shell pecans for everyone, and fish and hunt. But most of all he liked to drive his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and everyone else, through the mountains he logged all his life, looking for wildlife.
     He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rita Fairless and Francis Liles; father, Henry Fairless; and his first wife, Leona Fairless.

Velma Campbell Johnson, 1913 - 2006

     Velma Campbell Johnson, 93, of Mt. Herman Community passed away Monday, October 23, 2006 at Mt. Herman. She was born January 16, 1913 in Parks, Arkansas, the daughter of Carter and Lillie Whitson Sizemore.
     Velma was a homemaker and lived most of her lifetime in the Mt. Herman Community. She was affiliated with the Holiness Faith.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Pearl Campbell in 1971; daughter, Vadis Barrick in 1983; and grandson, Brian Campbell in 1988.
     Velma is survived by 114 of her descendents which include her 2 sons, Johnny Campbell and Jerry Campbell, both of Antlers, OK; 6 daughters, Margie Patrick of Paris, TX, Margarett Ham of Panama, OK, Barbara Johnson of Mt. Herman Community; Ruth Tramble of Antlers, OK, Charlotte Howard of Mt. Herman Community, and Sharon Lucas of Dallas, TX; 31 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Eula Mae Sims of Muldrow, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Robert Weeks and Rev. Ralph Taylor officiating.

Christopher Lee Ware, 1984 - 2006

     Christopher Lee Ware, 21, of Broken Bow, passed away October 22, 2006, at his residence. He was born November 29, 1984, in Idabel, OK, the son of Harold Ware and Debra (Hudgins) Sims.
     Christopher liked fishing, and watching football and NASCAR. He was affiliated with the First Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow and Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
     He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Charlie Hudgins; paternal grandfather, Charlie Ware; maternal grandmother, Helen Hudgins; uncles, Kelly Ware, Royce Boyd, and Danny Ledford; and aunt, Marie Krammie.

Octavio Raygadas Perez , 1966 - 2006

    Octavio Raygadas Perez, 40, of Broken Bow, passed away October 15, 2006, at Wadley Regional Medical Center, Texarkana. He was born March 3, 1966, in Tasquillo, Hidalgo, Mexico, the son of Ezeqiuel Raygadas Perez and Elva Olivia Raygadas Arteauga.
     He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Maria Elena Raygadas; and grandmother, Olivia Arteaga.

Harold Tipton, 1923 - 2006

Harold Tipton, 83, of Haworth, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Idabel. He was born July 5, 1923 in the Willow Springs Community, the son of Ike and Cora Ryan Tipton. He married Betty Robbins in DeQueen, AR on May 12, 1947. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
    Harold was a veteran of WWII serving in U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in the 32nd Airborne in France, England, and Germany. He was a carpenter and labor superintendent for Babcocks and Wilcox until 1972, when he and his family returned to Haworth. Harold then began working at Weyerhaeuser in Wright City, where he retired at age 65.
    Harold enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and loved hunting and fishing when he was still able. He loved his kids and grandkids dearly.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Fredrick, Eugene, Bo and Ernest; and 1 sister, Laverne Acord.
     Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Tipton; son, Harold Tipton of Redland; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Tammi and Tony Parker of Idabel and Loretta and Rayford Peavy of Tatum, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Charlie Green of Pierce City, MO; 5 grandchildren, Sunni Parker, Zachary Parker, Shaun Peavy, Reine Sower, and Jennifer Garcia; 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the First Assembly of God in Haworth with Bro. Jerry Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Redland Cemetery.

Effie Gertrude Mabry, 1925 - 2006

     Effie Gertrude Mabry, 81, Idabel, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Paris Regional Medical Center, Paris, Texas. She was born July 22, 1925 at Clarksville, TX, the daughter of William F. and Katie Jarrett Anglin.
     Gertrude married Stiles Mabry on October 7, 1945 at Clarksville, TX. and shared 61 happy years together. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Idabel, was retired as an inspector for Kellwood Company and had lived in the community most of her life. She loved the Lord and enjoyed cooking, sewing, puzzle books, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Mabry; father and mother, W. F. and Katie Anglin; and three sisters.
     Gertrude leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Stiles Mabry of the home; daughter, Mary Lou Bascle and husband Roland, Broken Bow; sister, Virginia Ganner, Ft. Worth, TX. four grandchildren, Bryan & Lindsey Mabry, Saginaw, MI., Chris & Sandy Powers, Idabel, Josh Mabry, Topeka, KS. Eloise Hardin, 1925 - 2006

     Eloise Hardin, 81, of Broken Bow, passed away October 17, 2006, at Dubuis Hospital of Texarkana. She was born July 20, 1925, the daughter of George Wesley Bray and Elma May (Wood) Bray.
     Eloise lived in this community most of her life. She was united in marriage to Granville Ray Hardin on March 20, 1942 in Idabel. She was a member of the HCE Harris Club, and McCurtain County Garden Club. Eloise enjoyed arts and crafts, and collecting antiques and dolls. She was a former National Flower Show Judge. She was extremely talented and liked drawing and silver smithing. She loved her family and friends. Eloise was a member of Lukfata Baptist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, May and George Bray; one daughter, Linda Beard; and brothers, Snow, Jack, and Bob Bray.
     Eloise leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ray Hardin, of the home; daughter, Margaret Gebert and husband Bertis, Broken Bow; special friend, Marilyn Wade, Broken Bow; eight grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends.

     Edwain Cates, 74, passed away October 16, 2006, at Oak Ridge Nursing Home in El Dorado, AR. He was born September 3, 1932, in Golden, OK, the son of William Edward Cates and Eula Bell (Sparkman) Cates.
     Edwain was a veteran who served our country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.

Shirley Tunnell, 1941 - 2006

     Shirley Tunnell, 65, of Moon passed away Monday, October 16, 2006 at her home. She was born July 28, 1941 in Arkinda, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Lewis Bates and Dollie Smith Bates. She married Willford Tunnell November 19, 1956 in Hugo.
     Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, and attending auctions and garage sales. She was a lifetime resident of this area.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; and several brothers and sisters.
     Shirley is survived by her husband, Willford “WD” Tunnell of Moon; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Paula Tunnel of Moon; a daughter, Tina Tunnel of Moon; a grandson, Chance Tunnel of Moon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maudie Gibson of Dallas, Louise and James Friend of Bokhoma, and Valvie and Larry Nolte of Ashdown; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Cody Carter, 1988 - 2006

     Cody Carter, 18, lifetime resident of Garvin, passed away near Madill, OK on Sunday, October 15, 2006. He was born February 13, 1988 in Paris, Texas, the son of Michael Carter and Jan Frady.
     Cody was a 2006 graduate of Valliant High School. He was a gifted mechanic, building his own 1920 model T-Bucket. Cody was a collector of model cars, guns, and swords, and he loved to hunt and fish.
     He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.

Cynthia Billy, 1932 - 2006

     Cynthia (Wilson) Billy, 74, of Broken Bow, passed away October 15, 2006, at Paris Regional Medical Center. She was born June 11, 1932, the daughter of Sweeny E. Wilson and Mary Mae (Ward) Wilson.
     Cynthia lived in this community all of her life. She was united in marriage to Ed Billy on February 15, 1948 in Texarkana. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, reading, visiting with relatives, and spending time with her grandchildren. Cynthia served on the Choctaw Nation Language Dictionary Committee, served as a Federal Observer for the Justice Department, worked as Ward Clerk at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, and retired from Broken Bow Schools as a Teacher’s Assistant after twenty five years. She was a member of Oka Achukma Presbyterian Church.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; three granddaughters, Kathi Hicks, Gina Billy, and Jennifer Billy; son-in-law, Ray Hicks; and special cousins, Dan Wilson and Ann Jacquez.
     Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ed Billy, of the home; sons, Curtis Billy and wife Teri, Broken Bow, Eric Billy and wife Debby, Norman, Wendell Billy, Broken Bow, and Phillip Billy and wife honorable State Representative Lisa J.      Ruby Delphina May, 75, Idabel, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2006, at her home. She was born January 29, 1931 at Bokhoma, OK., the daughter of the late Clarence Vivian Swartz and the late Ruby Vesta Ward Swartz.
     Ruby enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, singing, playing the guitar, fishing, and spending time with her family
.      She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ruby Swartz, son, Donald Green, daughter, Amelia Green and beloved husband, Leo May.

Eugene Burke, 1922 - 2006

     Eugene Burke, 84, of Broken Bow, passed away October 12, 2006, at his residence. He was born February 22, 1922, in Hochatown, OK, the son of Charles and Juanita (Chaney) Burke.
     Eugene was united in marriage to Lois Kincaid on January 26, 1946 in De Queen, AR. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII. Eugene enjoyed storytelling and spending time with his family. He served several terms as county commissioner. He was a former Mayor of Broken Bow, a commander of the American Legion, a member of the VFW, DAV, and the First Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow. Eugene never met a stranger and had a great loyalty to McCurtain County.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Juanita Burke; brothers, Vernon Burke and Leon Burke.

Donna Weatherford, 1936 - 2006

     Donna Weatherford, 70, of Idabel, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, October 11, 2006. She was born March 11, 1936 in Temple, Texas, the daughter of Johnnie May and Eunice Fayrene Meyer Peters. Donna married Jim Weatherford in Temple, Texas on January 24, 1958.
     Donna and Jim first moved to Idabel in 1962. Jim was a Minister and Donna a faithful minister’s wife. His ministry took them too many places over the next 25 years including Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Texas, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Kansas, and Canada. They moved back to Idabel in 1996.
     Donna was a devoted homemaker and did everything in her power to provide a wonderful home for her family. She loved singing and passed this love on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for her large family. Donna was a talented artist, especially oil painting, and was a very gifted bible class teacher to all ages. She was a member of the By-Pass Church of Christ.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Sibyl McDonald and Kathy Thomas.
     Donna is survived by her husband, Jim Weatherford of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kim Weatherford of Idabel, Donny and Tammy Weatherford of Idabel, and Jay and Michelle Weatherford of Broken Bow; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and Michael Greathouse of Alvin, Texas, and Jana Weatherford of Alvin, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Edie and Bob Connel of Abilene, Texas; nine grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the By-Pass Church of Christ in Idabel with Roy Risley, Bob Connel, and Wayne Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Denison Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends Saturday, October 14, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
     In lieu of flowers the family requests honorariums be made to the By-Pass Church of Christ Youth Fund.

Harrison Johnson, 1944 - 2006

     Harrison “Slim” Johnson, 62, of Broken Bow, passed away October 6, 2006. He was born February 23, 1944, in Broken Bow the son of Harrison and Nelly Belle (Moore) Johnson.
     He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Johnson.
     Slim leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Nelly Johnson; one son; three daughters; brother, Harold Johnson, Broken Bow; sisters, Melvie Herzog, CA, and Cheryl Ware, Lukfata; numerous nieces and nephews; and several friends in the Kiamichi Independent Bikers.

Michael T. Foshee, 1979 - 2006

     Michael T. Foshee, 27, of Broken Bow, passed away October 4, 2006. He was born May 10, 1979, in DeQueen, AR the son of Robert and Frances (Starnes) Foshee.
     Michael loved computers and was working towards a degree in computers. He enjoyed gaming, music, and playing the guitar. He loved spending time with his nieces.
     He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Pearl Foshee; maternal grandfather, Blake Starnes; maternal grandmother, Earlene Crowder; and uncle, Chester Foshee.
     Michael leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Robert and Frances Foshee, Broken Bow; daughter, Tessa Marie Foshee, Las Vegas; brother, Blake Foshee, Broken Bow; nieces, Kylar and MayKaylan Foshee, Holly Creek; nephew, Blake Thomas, Broken Bow; numerous aunts, uncles, and a host of friends.

Lillian Appleberry, 1921 - 2006

     Lillian Appleberry of Idabel went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 3, 2006. She was born April 29, 1921 in Idabel to Jim and Gracia Angelley.
     Lillian was a member of First Baptist Church, Durant and was very active there. Her Church duties in the past included being President of the Women’s Mission Union, Sunday School Teacher, lab technician for the Community Clinic held in the Church, and a Greeter for the morning service. She anonymously donated items to the Church that she so loved.
     Her civic duties included being Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha, member of FCE, chaplain of PEO, President of the Berean Chapter of Federated Women’s Club, and a 45 year member of Federated Women’s Club where she served as Secretary of the Fortnightly Club.
     Lillian worked 25 years as a clinical assistant for Engles Clinic. Upon retiring she had more time for her hobbies which were sewing, painting, and gardening. She moved to Idabel in September of 2004 where she was a resident of Colonial Lodge Retirement Center.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aaron Appleberry; sisters, Doris Roberts, Bertha Sherill, Deloris Maddux, Mildred Stuart, Viola Ridgeway, and Barbara Higgins.
     Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and George Grant; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sybil Angelley of North Carolina; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Corbin; a granddaughter and friend, Darla Grant and Greg Campbell; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Norman and Stephanie Grant; six great-grandchildren, Bretinie, Echo, Sara, Nesha, Reese, and Cole; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Idabel with Bro. Dennis Stuart, Bro. Robert Stuart, and Ben Stuart officiating. Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery.

Artis M. Duncan, 1927 - 2006

     Artis M. Duncan, 79, of Broken Bow, passed away October 3, 2006, at McCurtain Manor Nursing Home. He was born March 29, 1927, in Vandervoort, AR, the son of Fred and Ellen (Faulkner) Duncan.
     Artis was affiliated with the Baptist faith. He was a veteran who served our country during WWII in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Willie May Thompson on June 11, 1982 in Clarksville, TX. He worked as a concrete truck driver and always enjoyed working. He enjoyed watching wrestling, and western movies.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ellen Duncan; son, Michael Duncan; sister, Ethel Vandiver Hester; and step-son, Troy Loving.

Billy Donaldson, 1940 - 2006

     Billy Donaldson, 66, of Valliant, passed away Monday, October 2, 2006 at Paris, Texas. He was born June 20, 1940 the son of Claud and Opal Young Donaldson. He was a lifetime resident of Valliant, OK.
     Billy was a Veteran, serving 4 years in the United States Air Force. After his service in the Air Force, Billy began construction work. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, W.C. Donaldson and Clifton Donaldson.
     Billy is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Tommie Donaldson of Silver City, NM; 2 sisters, Wilma Roden of Millerton, OK and Flora Donaldson of Valliant, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

     Trellis Whiteman Jr., 49, of Broken Bow, passed away September 29, 2006, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, ME. He was born June 19, 1957, in Oklahoma City, the son of Trellis and Billie Jean (Love) Whiteman.
     Trellis lived in this area all his life. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and playing games. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was affiliated with the Valliant Church of God.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Trellis and Billie Jean Whiteman; and sister, Carolyn Whiteman.

Mary Armstrong, 1921 - 2006

     Mary Armstrong, 85, of Valliant passed away Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Idabel. She was born September 23, 1921 in Lockesburg, Arkansas, the daughter of S. A. and Pete Little Hale. She married Troy Armstrong on December 23, 1963 in DeQueen, Arkansas.
     Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and canning. She was a member of Wright City First Assembly of God Church and had lived most of her life in this area.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Curvin Hale, Reese Hale, and Walt Hale; a sister, Bee Carrol; a grandson, Brandon Armstrong; and a very special great-grandson, Tyler Rowan.
     Mary leaves to cherish her memory her husband Troy of Valliant; daughters and son-in-law, Joan and Monty Moniz of Broken Bow, and Irma Jean Witchcraft of Sweet Home, Oregon; sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Sharon Shipp of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Ronnie and Gina Shipp of Falmouth, Virginia, Kenneth “Turtle” and Gaylene Shipp of Valliant, Franky and Diane Armstrong of Valliant, Gary Armstrong of Boswell, and Jerry and Charlotte Arnold of Branson, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law, Estalene “Aunt Pete” and Joe Jessie of Broken Bow; a sister-in-law, Naomi Hale of Lockesburg, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
