Lillian Louise Willingham, 85, of Broken Bow, passed away November 30, 2006 at Crystal Falls Nursing Home, De Queen, AR. She was born December 17, 1920, in Goodwater, OK to Samuel Wakefield Willingham and Elizabeth Kay (Keith) Talley.
Lillian was an avid outdoors person. She enjoyed fishing, liked to dance and play bingo. Lillian loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Eckankar Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Willingham and Elizabeth Talley.

Wright, 1925 - 2006
Nellie Wright, 81, of the Glover Community, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at her residence. She was born April 20, 1925 in Hatfield, Arkansas, the daughter of Frank and Jewel Evans Whisenhunt. She married Andy Wright in Hatfield, Arkansas on September 24, 1940.
Nellie was an accomplished homemaker. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Nellie was of the Baptist Faith and was baptized at the Wright City First Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and was a lifetime resident of this area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Cliff Whisenhunt; a sister, Thelma Stinnett; and grandsons, Jamie Paul Wright, and Michael Paul Wright.
Nellie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Andy Wright of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Olen and Lucille Wright of Honobia, Earl and Sandra Wright of Wright City, Paul and Judy Wright of the Mt. Herman Community, James and Tabitha Wright of Glover, Frankie and Pam Wright of Paulina, Oregon, and Randall and Charla Wright of Honobia; daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Bill Packwood of the Holly Creek Community, Gertie and George Worsham of Broken Bow, and Helen and Greg Spivey of Oklahoma City; brother, Andrew Whisenhunt of Dayville, Oregon; sisters, Naomi Lynn Oster of Albany, Oregon, Gertrude Morgan of Turner, Oregon, Bertha Handcock of Salem, Oregon, and Elfa Mae Harris of Loins, Oregon; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services will be on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lukfata Baptist Church with Bro. Don Batchelor and Bro. Neil Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Watson Memorial Cemetery in the Oak Hill Community.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2006 at the funeral home.

Opal Wilson, 1936 - 2006
Opal Wilson, 70, of Idabel, passed away Monday, November 27, 2006 at Tulsa, OK. She was born April 24, 1936 in the Goodwater Community, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jakob McKinney. She married Caston Wilson in July 1968 at Idabel, OK.
Opal loved sewing and going to garage sales. She collected pins of many kinds. She enjoyed flowers, passing out tracts for church service, and spending time with her family and church friends. Opal was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the Choctaw Baptist Church. She was lifetime resident of this area.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Caston Michael Wilson of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Billy and Jill Murphy of Stillwater and Richard Wilson of Edmond; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Bibi of Virginia, Merry Murphy and Russell Parker of Dekalb, TX and Carol Murphy and Michael Loman of Idabel; 7 grandchildren, Tyler Lee Murphy, Carmen Murphy, Cailee Murphy, Jasin Bibi, Joseph Bibi, Jessie Thompson, and Kelly Loman; 1 great-granddaughter; special sister-in-law, Arlene Wilson of Lawton; her church family and numerous friends.
Services will be on 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Conley-White Chapel with Bro. Bob Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery in the Goodwater Community.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, November 30, 2006 at the home of Caston Wilson.

Wayne Reece, 1933 - 2006
Wayne Reece, 73, of Broken Bow, passed away November 27, 2006 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. He was born November 16, 1933, in Walters, OK the son of William J. and Elsie Reece.
Wayne was a veteran who served our country in the United States Navy. He married Dovie Hudgins on May 2, 1957 in Anadarko, OK. Wayne loved life, the outdoors, his kids, grandkids, and friends. He loved to fish and hunt. He loved people. Anyone who he met was always greeted with a smile. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Reece; father-in-law, Charlie Hudgins; brother, Billy Reece; brothers-in-law, Marshall Settle and Royce Boyd; sister, Charlene Manthei; and sisters-in-law, Faye Reece and Helen Hudgins.

Major Garland J. Moore, 1920 - 2006
In loving memory of Major Garland J. Moore, Retired, U.S. Army Medical Services Corps. He was born in Oak Hill, Oklahoma on June 8, 1920 and died peacefully at his home in Idabel, on November 24, 2006, surrounded by his family and friends. Garland was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War, and served in the Army until his retirement in 1963. He continued in the United States Civil Service as a hospital administrator until 1978. After returning to Idabel, Garland and his wife Cleo owned and operated the Happy Days Daycare in Valliant and the Good Times Day Care in Idabel until 1996.
Garland is survived by his wife, Cleo N. Moore, the love of his life, and his daughters and sons-in-law Patricia Talbot and Bill Bolin, Sherrye and Carl Vertregt, Vicki and Dan Thorne, Jacki and Ed Bell, and Judy Moore and her husband Bob Evans. Grandchildren are Lisa Veldboom, Elizabeth Vertregt, Kimberley, Carolyn and Kirsten Talbot, J.D., Katherine and Robert Thorne, Jake and Josh Bell, and Matt and Sam Evans. Great-grandchildren Megan, Linsey and Brendan Veldboom, Jessica Talbot, Mia, Dillon and Deacon Bell, and great-great granddaughters Rileigh Veldboom and Jillian Talbot. He is also survived by his sisters Irma Patterson and Jean Rakoz of Washington and brother Dale Moore of Oregon. He was predeceased by his parents Matt and Bertha Moore, brothers Estol, Tilman, Orval and Jay, and beloved grandson Garland Vertregt.
Garland was a brave and unassuming man, kind of heart, and always had a smile on his face. He had a deep, abiding faith in God. Garland was a son of the Great Depression who served in the CCC Camps before joining the Army in 1941. As a medic in Korea, he was a healer and a hero, earning a battlefield commission and a Bronze Star for rescuing wounded soldiers while under fire. His service to our country will be remembered forever in our hearts. He had a warrior's heart to the end. He was also a man who loved his family and we will miss him always.

Louise Hendrix, 71, of Broken Bow, passed away November 22, 2006 at East Texas Medical Center, Tyler, TX. She was born February 16, 1935, in Broken Bow, OK to William Charles and Nettie Fern (Whitehead) Rodgers.
Louise lived in the Broken Bow community all of her life. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and caring for her children & grandchildren. Louise was a member of Broken Bow Church of God. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Hendrix; daughter, Linda Rodgers; son, Charles Raley; son, Luther Wayne Hendrix; grandson, Mitchel Mikeska; and parents, William and Nettie Rodgers.

Arthur Lewis Riley, Sr., 1926 - 2006
Arthur Lewis Riley, Sr., 80, of the Pleasant Hill Community, formerly of Wylie, TX, passed away at his home, Wednesday, November 22, 2006. He was born February 8, 1926 at Oil City, LA, the son of Arthur Leo and Katie Story Riley. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Riley served in the United States Navy and was a retired truck driver for Austin Paving Company in Dallas, TX. On August 8, 1942 he married Ruby Sharp at Longview, TX.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Katie Riley; brother, George Riley; 2 sons-in-law, Jerry Kirby and Kenneth Pendergrass; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Riley; and grandson, Mark Kirby.
He is survived his wife, Ruby Riley, of the Pleasant Hill Community; 2 daughters, Barbara Kirby of Josephine, TX, and Katie Pendergrass of Merit, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Tamara Riley of the Pleasant Hill Community; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the Tom Baptist Church, Tom, OK with Bro. Miles Wesner and Bro. Cecil Atnip officiating. Interment will follow at Tom Cemetery. Nancy McConnell, 56, of Broken Bow, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at her home. She was born April 21, 1950 at DeQueen, Arkansas to Matt and Geneva Brown Masterson. She married Harold McConnell in Clarksville, Texas on July 3, 1971.
Nancy was a homemaker. She enjoyed collecting Elvis Presley memorabilia, listening to her CB radio and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sister, Helen Cogburn.

Oleta Cunningham, 76, of Broken Bow, passed away November 20, 2006 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born September 7, 1930, in Battiest, OK to Alva Webster Perrin and Lela (Cheek).
Oleta loved to cook, fish, hunt, and spend time with her family and friends. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Passmore Martin; brother, Delton Perrin; and sister, Helen Passmore.

William Thomas "Tom Dooley" Chandler, 50, of Eagletown, passed away November 17, 2006. He was born March 13, 1956, in Canyonville, OR the son of William Lee and Bobbie Jo Chandler.
Tom was a journeyman construction worker. He served our country in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed painting, drawing, and spending time with family and friends. He was affiliated with the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, William "Tippy" Chandler; brother, Bobby Lee Chandler; grandparents, Bud and Jo Joiner and Roy and Alta Chandler; uncle, Moss Joiner; and aunt, Nelda Sullivan

Jessie Askins, 93, former resident of McCurtain County, passed away Friday, November 17, 2006 at Ft. Smith, AR. She was born April 23, 1913, the daughter of Ora and Eva Robertson Wilkerson. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Jessie had lived in Bokhoma until she was about 20 years old. Her family moved back and forth throughout her lifetime. She and her husband, Howard Richard Askins attended the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church for some time.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Howard Askins; her parents, Ora and Eva Wilkerson; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her loving children, Verneva Clanton of Odessa, TX, Leon Askins of Odessa, TX, and Troy Askins of Fort Smith, AR; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Conley-White Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at Haworth Cemetery.

Helen M. Passmore, 81, of Broken Bow, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2006 at DeQueen, Arkansas. She was born January 16, 1925 at Battiest, Oklahoma to Alva and Lela Cheek Perrin.
Helen lived in Broken Bow most of her life and was affiliated with the Assembly of God faith. She was an accomplished homemaker, a wonderful cook and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Passmore; son, Wendell Passmore; step grandson, Eddie Passmore; and brother, Delton Perrin.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Brenda and Hugh J Pratt of Broken Bow; step daughter, Mary Korthuis of Arlington, Texas; three step sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse and Annelisa Passmore of Tacoma, Washington, Roy and Sue Passmore of Arlington, Texas, and Phil and Diana Passmore of Spokane, Washington; grandchildren, Lyndell, Randell, and Crystal Pratt of Broken Bow; sister and brother-in-law, Oleta and Frank Cunningham of Broken Bow; sister-in-law, Mable Perrin of Waukomis, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren; ten step grandchildren; nineteen step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Ella "Cricket" Cuzick, 1916 - 2006
Ella "Cricket" Cuzick, 90, of Broken Bow,
passed away November 17, 2006 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born
April 7, 1916, in Odell, AR to Jesse and Bessie (Dobbs) Willhite.
Ella moved to Broken Bow in 1970 from California.
She was a special and caring person who would always take time to visit
her friends in the nursing homes. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes.
Ella was a member of Broken Bow Church of Christ. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Ralph Cuzick; daughter, Izetta "Bobbie" Deramus; son, Omer Dean Cuzick;
son-in-law, Don Deramus; sister, Dovie Loftin; and brothers, Orvel and
Jack Willhite.

Vickie Ann Cupit, 49, of Broken Bow, passed away November 16, 2006 at Paris Regional Medical Center. She was born December 8, 1956, in Denison, TX to William Eugene and Jo Ann Davis.
Vickie was a member of Good News Fellowship. She loved to paint and enjoyed entering the photography contest at Beaver’s Bend. She painted most of the Christmas scenes in the downtown business windows. She enjoyed going to the river. Vickie loved spending time with her family and friends.
Vickie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Don Cupit of the home; parents Gene and Jo Ann Davis, Bixby, OK; son, Shane Hill, Ft Worth, TX; daughter, Summer Bray and husband Rodney, Holly Creek; step-children, Chad Cupit and wife Amanda, Holly Creek, and Tina Owens, Broken Bow; sisters, Valorie Gallagher, NJ, Mitzie Williams, IN, and Melinda Davis, Tulsa; grandchildren, Rodney Bray Jr., and Baylie Bray; step-grandchildren, Colten Cupit, Kinzey Cupit, Erin Hope Owens, and Aiden Garrett Owens, and a host of friends.

Ruby Jean Washington, 71, of Idabel, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at her home. She was born February 28, 1935 at Idabel, the daughter of Leo and Lena Battice Harley.
Ruby loved to listen to Gospel music and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Washington, Sr.; and sister, Lina Ebahotubbi.
Ruby is survived by 3 sons, Glenn Washington, George Washington, and Jamie and Verna Washington all of Idabel; 2 daughters, Lecreata Billy of Idabel and Marthella and Benito Padron of Pittsburg, TX; 11 grandchildren, LaJuanna, Lisa, Ursula, Anthony, Cody, Justin, Ga’Lynn, Grace, Ga’Lena, Stephanie and Ashley; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Charles Roy Harley of Idabel, Alfred Harley of Wilberton, OK, Everett Harley of Idabel, and Virgil Harley of DeQueen, AR; 3 sisters, Ruthie Mae Williston of Idabel, Amelia James of Idabel, and Leola Faye Harley, Ft. Ricky Dale Hunnicutt, 1974 - 2006
Ricky Dale Hunnicutt, 32, of Haworth, OK passed
away November 13, 2006 south of Broken Bow. He was born January 11,
1974 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
to Richard and Carla Slabaugh Hunnicutt. He was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
Rick was a very loving father and devoted his life to seeing his children smile. He loved playing golf with his son, Dylan and coaching softball for his beautiful daughters, Maegan and Morgan.
He enjoyed hunting, goofing off with his work buddies, and NASCAR. Rick also enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews. He was employed with Huber Engineered Woods in Broken Bow and took great pride in his work.
Rick was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Lee Hunnicutt.

Dr. Raphael Edmond Zimmer, 1930 - 2006
Dr. Raphael Edmond Zimmer went to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 12, 2006, at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born to Michael and Madonna Zimmer in Fairfield, IL on July 31, 1930. After completion of high school, Ray joined the U.S. Navy and served his country as a medic and a member of the U.S. Navy choir. Ray had a beautiful voice and loved all types of music.
Upon completion of his duty to his country, he enrolled in college and for the next ten years studied medicine in various parts of the United States and became a licensed physician. One of his famous classmates was the notorious Dr. Sam Shepherd, of which the TV series, The Fugitive, originated.
He was an accomplished pilot, flying his own plane until his health no longer permitted. He was an active member of the Redland United Methodist Church and his love for church auctions and fundraisers was known throughout the area.
His love for McCurtain County, his friends and family, was shared throughout his life. Ray was a traditional (Doc) in a modern world. His fridge was always filled with different types of payment for his services, whether it was cheese, sausage, or a handshake. No one was ever turned away. Dr. Zimmer truly felt the Hippocratic Oath came from the heart.
He is survived by Ann Zimmer, his wife and partner of twenty-five years, one son, Dr. Jim Zimmer, his wife, Barbara, and their two children, Zachery and Lauren, of Colorado Springs, CO. He was father to Ann’s four children and Papa to his grandchildren and Doc to everyone.
In his medical career his accomplishments were: Oklahoma Medical Association, Baratic Certified Specialist, Chelation Certified, Oklahoma Surgery Board, McCurtain Memorial Hospital Authority Board, former Chief of Staff, Eufaula Medical Center, Eufaula OK.
Services will be Thursday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Redland United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Redland Cemetery with Rev. Gene Van Alstyne officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be, Jerry Whisenhunt, David Mathews, Dr. Frank Morales, Derek Wiggins, Rusty Farley, and Kent Smith.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Harkrider, and Mark Mathews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Redland United Methodist Church.

James “Cotton” Gragg, 1941 - 2006
James “Cotton” Gragg, 65, of Idabel passed away November 12th. He was born February 23, 1941 in Idabel to Lee and Loma Gray Gragg. James was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County where he worked as a painter and carpenter.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. James was affiliated with the Spirit Rock Church, and enjoyed visiting with his friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Loma Gray Gragg; wife, Ludie Walker Gragg; brothers; Monroe Gragg, Clyde Gragg, Beady Gragg and Dobber Gragg.
Cotton is survived by a daughter Misty Holmes of Hugo, Ok; 5 sisters Ginger Barrett of Broken Bow, Ok., Bonnie Edmondson of Idabel, Ok., Betty Biddle of Oklahoma City, Ok., Liz Stringer of Midwest City, Ok., Jody Rains of Livingston, TX; step-children Kent Walker, Tony Walker, Dot and Debbie Walker, many step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held November 14th at Norwood Funeral Home at 2:00 with Bro. Moses Jones officiating. Burial was at Canfield Cemetery.

Earleen McFarland, 75, of Wright City, passed away Friday, November 10, 2006, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born November 18, 1930 in, Wright City, the daughter of Jessie Lee (McFarland) Sims.
Earleen lived in Wright City most of her life and was a member of First Assembly Of God, Wright City. Her greatest love was going to church and being involved with the Women’s Ministries. She enjoyed sewing, listening to gospel music on the radio, watching church programs and cartoons on television, especially “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”. She was formerly an active member of the Wright City Senior Citizens. Earleen loved being with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Jessie and Carl Sims; grandparents, Steve and Lizzie McFarland; aunts, Lillian Watson, Mavis O’Rear, Amber Rean Hardin, and Millie Bullard; and uncle, Lawrence McFarland.
Earleen leaves to cherish her memory two uncles, J.C. McFarland, Sweet Home, OR, and W. T. McFarland, Moore, OK; one aunt, Helen Embry, Frisco, TX; and many cousins and friends.

Nellie Jewel Young, 88, of Pollard Community, passed away Friday, November 10, 2006, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born December 17, 1917, in Haworth, OK, the daughter of J. D. and Donnie Bell Harris.
Nellie served the Lord and was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. Nellie loved her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Donnie Bell Harris; husband, Ed Young; sons, James Wesley Thomas, and Billy Ray Thomas; brother, James D. Harris, sisters, Deloris Scott, and Dora Lee Anderson.

Nancy Sue Horn, 65, of Haworth, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at her home. She was born April 14, 1941, in Idabel, OK, the daughter of Jewell Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Erick Horn; and her husband, Robert Eugene Horn.
Nan leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Jewell Richardson; sister, Nell Lockwood; brothers, Bill Richardson, Texarkana, James Richardson and Terry Richardson both of Valpariso, IN; children, Tom Horn and Ken Horn, both of Stillwater, OK, Sandee Yancey, Birmingham, AL, and Jay Horn, Haworth, OK; grandchildren, Megan and Gage Yancey of Birmingham, AL, Maxwell Thomas Horn, Stillwater, OK. Nan also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
One of Nan’s proudest achievements was graduating Valedictorian of her nursing class at the age of 50. This accomplishment was a life-long dream. Her love of nursing was rivaled only by her love for her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Nan embodied the love of Jesus in her unconditional love for her children.
She was passionate about many things including gardening, reading poetry, arranging flowers, crocheting, chicken scratching, and collecting angels.
She held fast to her faith in Christ and had a strong belief in angels as our guardians. Listed in her family Bible was a favorite verse, “In death the angels of the Lord shall gather around you and take you to the presence of God”.
There will be a visitation at Brumley Funeral Home, Idabel on Friday, November 10, 2006 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2006, at Redland Cemetery. Rev. Dean George will officiate. The family will honor her memory with a dinner celebration after the service at Redland United Methodist Church.

Mary Louise (Robinson) Wilkinson, 71, of Broken Bow, passed away Friday, November 10, 2006, at her residence. She was born August 8, 1935, in Idabel, the daughter of Lylie Colbert and William Battice.
Mary was a member of Kulli Tuklo Presbyterian Church in Watson, OK. She loved the Lord and going to church. Her hobbies included quilting, playing bingo, and going to church singing. She retired from Beavers Bend State Park. Mary enjoyed and loved her grandchildren. She loved to watch sports, especially football and baseball, O.U. and Atlanta Braves were her favorite teams. When she could she would go watch her grandchildren play. Mary was united in marriage to Thomas Wilkinson on August 5, 1980 in Hugo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Thompson, Mary Jane Bacon, and Helen Sue Gover.

Gary Odell Alley, Sr., 59, Broken Bow, OK, passed away November 10, 2006 at McCurtain Manor Nursing Home. He was born October 3, 1947 in Broken Bow.
Gary proudly served our country in the United States Navy for 18 years. He served during the Vietnam War and was an Aviation Electrician helping to keep the fighter planes in the air. He enjoyed working on cars and was active on the stock market and e-trading. Gary loved to sing and was a member of the Main Street Pickers. His favorite song was “Okie from Muskogee”. He was affiliated with Community Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gertrude Cooke; daughters, Jeanette Elaine Alley and Evelyn Colleen Alley; son, Johnny Wayne Alley; and brother, Billy Brown.

Helen Virginia Hoover, 84 , of Tom, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. She was born April 29, 1922 in Oklahoma City to Fred and RoseAnn Groves.
Helen was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County, a member of the Tom Baptist Church and a retired presser in the cleaning business. She was actively involved in coordination and serving the Tom Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mart “Pete” Hoover and her son, James “Kirk” Hoover.
Survivors include her son, Fred Hoover of California; daughter, Julia Ann Cooper of California; brothers, C.L. Groves of Florida and Barney Groves of Virginia; sister, Freda Holmes of Florida; grandchildren, Dawn Allen, Sherri Jones, George Staudinger, Marty Hoover, Kelly Hoover, Christie Hoover, V. Anna Balogh and Ronald Cooper; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Lorene Eppler Currence, 1922 - 2006
Lorene Eppler Currence, 84, formerly of Broken Bow, passed away November 7, 2006 in Kingwood, TX. She was born March 15, 1922 in Elmore City, OK, to Allison Luther Eppler and Almeda Osteen Eppler, the seventh of eight children. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; brothers, Lloyd and Archie; and sisters, Elsie and Gladys.
Lorene leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Florence and Lois of Mesa, AZ; brother, Clifford, Globe, AZ; daughter, Ilora Young and husband Dave of Kingwood, TX; son, Mike and wife Barbara of McKinney, TX; three grandchildren, Tammy Smith and husband Randy of Kingwood, TX, Mike Young and wife Mandy of Arlington, TX, and Jack Currence and friend Brandy of Allen, TX; six great grandchildren, Preston, Jacob, Rebekah, Lindsea, Isabella and Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorene moved from Ardmore to Broken Bow in 1934 and was a member of the Broken Bow High Band, playing piccolo. She and Roy married on December 17, 1941 and moved to Abilene, TX where Roy’s National Guard unit mobilized for training before deployment in WWII. Lorene moved to Phoenix during the war and lived with her mother and sisters while working at an aircraft plant re-building damaged aircraft from the Pacific theater. After the war, Lorene and Roy started their family while farming in New Mexico.
Over the following 30 years, Lorene held several professional positions, including secretary to the Commander of Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX. Lorene was a member of Eastern Star in Clovis, NM, Abilene, TX, and Broken Bow. She was presented with the Esther honor while a member of the Broken Bow chapter.
Lorene was a former member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and a current member of Second Baptist Church in Kingwood, TX where she was active in her Bible Study class and the Forest Cove Quilters.
After retirement, Lorene and Roy returned to Broken Bow. Longing for home, they settled on Currence Road, an area purchased and homesteaded by family in the 1800’s. After returning to Broken Bow, Lorene and Roy mapped out the Broken Bow cemetery, creating maps and signs so families could find gravesites.
Their home was always the gathering place for friends and family and there was always a pie or cake baking in the oven. She could produce a banquet with a few items from the refrigerator at the drop of a hat. Lorene and her sweet giving spirit will be missed by many.
Visitation will be at Brumley Funeral Home in Broken Bow beginning at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2006, with graveside services immediately following at Broken Bow Cemetery.

H. Lucille “Grannie” Griggs, 1916 - 2006
H. Lucille “Grannie” Griggs, 90, Idabel, passed away Nov. 6, 2006 at Hill Nursing Home, Idabel.
Grannie was born May 30, 1916 at Dierks, Ark. to Allen and Ethel Jaquysh. She lived most all of her life in McCurtain County.
She and her husband operated the Magnolia and Conoco
gas stations in Broken Bow. Grannie was one of the first female taxi cab drivers
in Broken Bow. She loved to fly fish and enjoyed taking her grandchildren and
teaching them to fish. Her picture was featured on the cover of Field and Stream
magazine at one time. Grannie was a member of the Church of Christ.
Grannie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold Griggs; her grandson, Brad Lane; and a great-grandson, Sky Lane.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter,
Nancy Lane, Idabel; her grandchildren, Buddy Lane and wife Gwen, Idabel, James
Lane of Broken Bow, Joe Lane and wife Tracy of Houston, Texas, and Cindy Cannon

Loyd Cates, 1927 - 2006
Loyd Cates, 79, of Oak Hill passed away Sunday, November 5, 2006 at the V. A. Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born April 21, 1927 to Eula and William Edward Cates at Avery, Texas. He lived most of his life in McCurtain County.
Loyd was an Army veteran who served in Korea and the United States. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, fixing up old garden tillers and playing cards. He worked in the pulpwood logging industry for several years. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and all his friends. He was a member of the Baptist church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Cliffie Cates; brothers, Henery Cates, Edwain Cates and sister, Willie Cates.
Loyd leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Linda Darby of Oklahoma City; grandson, Eddie Darby and wife, La Donna of Wright City; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Audrey, and Dalton Darby of Wright City; sisters, Mollie Davidson of Broken Bow, Vera Cogburn of Strong, Arkansas; brothers, Frankie Cates of Oak Hill, Goldie Cates of Medford, Oregon; numberous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mahali Soraya Watson, 2003 - 2006

On Friday, November 3, 2006 the angels brought Mahali Soraya Watson to Jesus. Mahali, 3, of Oklahoma City, passed away at The Children's Hospital at O.U. Medical Center. She was born May 23, 2003, in, Talahina, OK, the daughter of Sarah Watson.
Mahali enjoyed watching Dora The Explorer, and playing with dolls. She loved playing with her cousin Emma.

Melba Little, 71, Octavia, OK, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana. She was born February 5, 1935 at Antlers, OK the son of Wilburn Delbert and Daisy Mae (White) Ingram.
Melba Ingram and Shade Little were united in marriage on December 22, 1952 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. She lived in Southeast Oklahoma most of her life and was affiliated with the Baptist faith. Melba enjoyed caring for her rose bushes. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and babying her dog Taco. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Daisy Mae Ingram; son, David Little; brothers, Charles, Frank and Junior Ingram; and husband, Shade Little.

Peggy Marie Heimbach, 47, Valliant, passed away
Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in Sawyer. She worked as a registered Nurse at Choctaw
Memorial Hospital, and was a member of the Nursing Association, Kiamichi Independent
Bikers, and was of the Assembly of God Faith.
Peggy was born Jan. 11, 1959, in Idabel, the daughter
of Billy Jack Roan and Helen Marie (Taylor) Edmondson and has lived most of her
life in Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Arkansas. She married Herbert Heimbach
in De Queen, Ark., on May 17, 2006. She liked dancing, playing with her grandchildren,
traveling, and really enjoyed passing out Halloween candy. She also enjoyed riding
horses and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Nursing was her life. But most importantly
she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Beau Curtis Milam in 1979 and John David Milam in 2006.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Heimbach
of Valliant; her parents, Billy Jack Roan of Eagletown and Helen Marie Edmondson
of Rover, Ark.; one son, James Robert Milam and his wife Misty Dawn of Lane;
one daughter, Jessica Marie Nicole Milam and her husband Carl Gantt of Millerton;
one stepson, Terry Wade Heimbach and his wife Cynthia of Valliant; one stepdaughter,
Vanessa Kay Monk and her husband Jay of Savannah, Ga.; four brothers, Ronald
Dean Lane of Valliant, Loy Jack Holmes, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., Leonard
Lee Holmes of Austin, Texas, and Leslie Earl Holmes of Odessa, Texas; two sisters,
Donna Holmes of Fort Towson, and Lisa Elaine McDowell of Texarkana, Ark.; one
half-brother, Jerry Wayne Roan of Eagletown; one half-sister, Debbie Kaye Gilbert
of Eagletown; seven grandchildren, Beau Taylor Curtis Milam, Craig, Kyle and
Casey Holmes, Joshua Lee Monk, Jr., Allyson Amber Heimbach, and Mason Shane Stidham;
along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other
family and friends who are left to cherish her memory.
The family received friends Sunday Nov. 5, 2006,
from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at the 1st Assembly of God Church, Valliant, with Bro. Scott Stuart officiating. Interment followed in the Moran Cemetery, Valliant.
Miller & Miller Funeral Home of Valliant handled the arrangements.

Amanda James, 1938 - 2006
Amanda Lena James, 68, of Broken Bow, passed away Friday, November 3, 2006, at St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana. She was born January 7, 1938, in, Ringold, OK, the daughter of James Holmes and Eliza Jackson.
Amanda was a Lay Speaker for 10 years at Tohwali United Methodist Church. She also was a Sunday School teacher and worship leader. Amanda was president of the Senior Citizens of Choctaw Nation in Broken Bow. She loved watching her grandchildren from her front porch and traveling with the Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her parents James Holmes, and Eliza Jackson; sons, Gregory Noah, and Michael Noah; daughter, Freda Tisho; grandson, Clifford Noah Lewis, step-son, Bradley James; and brother Watson Taylor.
Amanda leaves to cherish her memory her husband of thirty years, Jacob James; sons, Richard Jackson and wife Janetta, Broken Bow, Jerry H. Noah and wife Debra, Bowling Green, FL, Gary “Pooh” Noah and wife Tamara, Broken Bow; step-sons, Gerald James and wife Patty, Watonga, OK, Darrell James, Norman, and Abbie L. James, Hugo; daughters, Reda Jessie and husband Ray, Beverly Noah, Roberta Benites, Lucretia Noah, all of Broken Bow; step-daughters, Nancy Williams, Battiest, and Margie Hernandez, Nashville AR; brother, Franklin Taylor, Broken Bow; fifty-one grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; special na hollo grandson, Rusty Biles; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the Tohwali United Methodist Church, Oak Hill Community. Rev. Ronnie Tom, and Rev Harvey Williams will officiate. Interment will follow at Tohwali Cemetery.
There will be a wake service from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home, Broken Bow.

Nettie Ward, 82, Garvin, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Katherine Dixie Wauhop Phillips, 1912 - 2006
Katherine Dixie Wauhop “Kate” Phillips passed away October 28, 2006 at the Memorial Height Nursing Center, Idabel, Oklahoma.
She was born February 1, 1912 in Madras, Texas to William and Myrtle Chapman Wauhop. Her family moved to Bokhoma, Oklahoma when she was three years old. Kate graduated from Haworth High School in 1929. She attended one year of Idabel Junior College. While at Haworth High School where she played girls basketball, she met Lewis Phillips who played on the boy’s team. They were married on June 15, 1931 in the home of her parents in Idabel. They lived in Smithville, Oklahoma for the first nine years of their marriage then moved to Texas and lived there until the end of World War II.
Kate was a resident of Idabel from 1946 until this date. She served the hospital volunteers in many capacities and was a member of the First Baptist of Idabel, Daughters of the American Revolution and an active member of the McCurtain Memorial Hospital Auxilliary volunteers. In 1993 she was named Volunteer of the year... Always known for the cheerful, outgoing personality and sense of humor, Kate left a legacy of optimism and love to her many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Will and Myrtle Wauhop, brothers; William and John Wauhop, her husband, Lewis C. Phillips and Son Billy H. Phillips.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Phillips Capps, son-law, Charles Capps; daughter-in-law, Virginia Bartlett Phillips; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Lewis and Vickie Phillips, Brian and Janet Phillips, Robert and Anne Phillips, Sandra and Bryan Strickland, Chuck and Donna Capps, Russ and Steffanni Capps and Jerry and Kelly Capps; eight great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and others she mothered during her life. Whether known as “Granny”, “Grandma Kate”, Miss Kate or Katie, she will missed and remembered by all.
Visation will be Monday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Norwood Funeral Home in Idabel.
In Lieu of flower donations may be made to the McCurtain Memorial Hospital Auxillary.

John Paul Millsap, 1948 - 2006
John Paul Millsap, 58, Bonham, Texas, passed away October 25th, 2006 at the Veterans Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was born on May 17, 1948 in Houston, Texas, the son of Jerome and Mable Millsap.
John was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Mable Millsap; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Fanny Millsap; uncles, Clifton, Grant and Clarence Jr. Millsap; great-aunt, Vera Grace Millsap and her namesake aunt Vera Grace Millsap; maternal grandparents, F. C. and Missie Hall; and aunt, Laura Posey.
John leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Kenny Millsap and wife Barbara; two nieces, Tiara and Crystal; uncle, Ralph Millsap; aunt, Dona Rhea and Bill Cooke; special cousin Kathy Prater; and many other cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at First Christian Church, Broken Bow.
