Joseph Taylor, 1921 - 2006

     Joseph Taylor, 84, of Broken Bow passed away Monday, February 27, 2006 at the Broken Bow Nursing Home. He was born at Nashoba, OK on March 27, 1921 to Archibald Taylor and Lena Noah Taylor.
     Joseph was affiliated with Tohwali United Methodist Church. He attended Goodland Indian Orphanage School near Hugo. Joe joined the United States Army in June 1942. He married Helen V. McCurtain on April 14, 1945 in Cheraw, South Carolina. He served in the army as a demolition specialist in the 542nd Parachute Infantry until 1945. Joe rejoined the Army in August 1949 into Company F 351st Infantry where he remained until August 29, 1957 when he was Honorably discharged. He received The American Theatre Campaign Victory Medal, he served in Trieste, Italy and Korea, and Joe also received a letter from the now President of the Republic of Korea, Kim Dae-jung for his noble contribution to the efforts to safeguard the Republic of Korea.
     Joe loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and caring for his lawn. He enjoyed family visits and time with grandsons.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Lena Taylor; sisters, Catherine Taylor Sexton and Rhoda Taylor Notah; brother, Wayland Nelson; grandson Joe Coleman; great-granddaughter, Shayanna Taylor; and great grandson, Brandon Samuel Choate.
     Joe leaves to cherish his memory his wife of sixty years Helen Taylor, of the home; three sons Kimbrough Taylor and wife Gloria, and Perry Taylor all of Oklahoma City, and Matthew Taylor of Broken Bow; three daughters, Ruby Choate and husband Lyman, and Priscilla Coleman all of Broken Bow, and Sandra Denton and husband K.A. of Blanchard, OK; sister, Lucille Underwood of Antlers, OK; twenty one grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow. Interment will follow at Watson Cemetery, Oak Hill Community. Rev. Harvey Williams and Rev. Bertram Bob will officiate.
     The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home, Broken Bow.

Lena Lee, 1928 - 2006

     Lena Ruth Lee, 77, of Broken Bow, OK, passed away February 25, 2006 at McCurtain Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow, OK. She was born November 3, 1928 in Holly Creek, OK to Oscar Floyd Stewart and Lena Pearl “Taylor” Stewart.
     Lena was affiliated with the Baptist faith. She loved to crochet, go fishing, and cook. Her joy in life was taking care of her family and spending time with family and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar “Bud” and Lena Stewart; brothers W. E. “Snowball” Stewart and Dan Stewart; sister, Valamae Forshee; and husband of forty-five years D. N. Lee.
     Lena leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Sherry Foxx and husband Dow, Hope Hull, AL, and Donna Jackson and husband Jim of Holly Creek, OK; grandchildren Chris Jackson, Dallas, TX, Shauna Glasson and husband Clint, Broken Bow, Scott Foxx and wife Abby, and Amber Newell and husband Chris all of Hope Hull, AL; great grandchildren Alex Newell and Avery Newell, Hope Hull, AL, and baby Glasson on the way, Broken Bow; two special nieces, Kay Tucker and husband Ed, Moore, OK and Brenda Simpson and husband Kenny, Durant, OK; and several great nephews and nieces.
     Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, OK. Interment will follow at Holly Creek Cemetery, Holly Creek Community, OK. Larry Bray will officiate.
     The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home, Broken Bow.

Grover Partridge, 1932 - 2006

     Grover Floyd Partridge, 74, of Idabel, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2006 at his home in Idabel. He was born February 8, 1932, at Leonard, TX, the son of Lee Roy and Virgie Partridge.
     Grover was a truck driver and worked in Alaska many years before returning to Oklahoma. He enjoyed spending time at Wal-Mart and with his family and friends.
     He was preceded in death by his parents Lee Roy and Virgie Partridge.
     Grover leaves to cherish his memory his sister and brother-in-law, Nona and Vernon Butler, of Idabel; one nephew, Richard Butler of Idabel; and one niece, Terri Smith, of Glencoe, OK and a host of friends.
     The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Mary Moore, 1944 - 2006

     Mary M. Mangum (Rebik) Moore, age 62, passed away February 25, 2006 in Las Vegas N.M. after an extended illness. Mary was born August 26, 1944, in Idabel, to William “Bill” and Mary Mangum. She was a 1962 graduate of Brawley Union High School in Brawley, CA. After graduation Mary married George Rebik and had 3 children and moved to Oklahoma. In 1980 she began driving a truck which she did for over 18 years. “Cookie” as most of her colleagues knew her hauled logs for most of these years.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; and second husband, Ted Moore.
     Mary is survived by her first husband George Rebik of Shinewell, OK; sons and daughters-in-Law, David and Debbie Rebik of Goodwater OK, Tony and Pam Rebik of Idabel; a daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Thomas Sliger of Tucumcari, NM; and 10 grandchildren.
     Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the Cerrogordo Cemetery in Cerregordo, Arkansas.

Lloyd Griffin, 1909 - 2006

     Lloyd Murvyn Griffin, age 97 passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, February 25, 2006. He was born on January 2, 1909 in Friendship, Tennessee. After graduating from Emory University where he was an honored member of the Glee Club, he married Ruth Etheredge in 1933 and moved to Idabel where he resided and was a farmer-rancher until retiring.
     Mr. Griffin was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was a charter member of the Idabel Rotary Club in which he held many offices. Mr. Griffin served on the board of director’s of the First State Bank for over 20 years. He was active on the boards of the Soil Conservation and the Farm Bureau. He loved music and expressed it through playing with the Silver Strings and singing in the choir at his church.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Ethna Howell Griffin, and his wife Ruth Etheredge Griffin.
     Lloyd Griffin will be sorely missed by his survivors which include a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Lindasu Griffin of Idabel; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine G. and Charles E. Keiler of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Susan and George Lowell of Austin, Texas; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, David Howell and Mary Ellen Griffin of St. Louis, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Helen Griffin of Quincy, Florida and Mary Derryberry of Idabel.
     Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Idabel with Rev. Pat Beltzer officiating. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hershel Moore, 1928 - 2006

     Elder Hershel Moore, 77, of Idabel, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Idabel. He was born April 17, 1928 in Wagoner, Oklahoma, the son of Clyde and Gladys Martin Moore.
     Hershel was a retired minister. He pastored Missionary Baptist Churches in Oklahoma and Arkansas for over 47 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was very talented at fixing things. Hershel was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had lived in Idabel for 4 years moving from Okemah.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra Stemson; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.
     Hershel is survived by his wife, Clara Moore of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Bill Anderson of California, Deborah and Dan Conway of Oregon, Darlene and Frankie Doyle of Carthage, Missouri, Delores and Bill Thomas of Carthage, Missouri, and Anita and Jose Barela of California; a son, Jess Weightman and Sue Brown of Carthage, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Moore of California; sisters, Dorothy Garrett of California, Wanda Cox of Colorado, and Imogene Willis of Okemah, Oklahoma; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Idabel with Bro. Doug Clements officiating. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery.
     Pallbearers will be Robert Hudson, Larry Hudson, Bill Thomas, Carl Doyle, Le Doyle, and Jess Weightman.

Tan Dinh, 1924 - 2006

     Tan Thi Dinh, 82, formerly of Broken Bow, OK, passed away February 23, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK. She was born January 1, 1924 in Vietnam.
     Tan was affiliated with the Catholic Church. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Tan loved to garden and was very strong in her faith.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Ta Nguyen; her son, Tien Nguyen and her daughter, Mai Nguyen.
     Tan leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Chuc Nguyen, Vietnam, and Viet Nguyen, Garland, TX; three daughters, Dang Nguyen, Vietnam, Van Nguyen, Austin, TX, and Nam Tran, Tulsa, OK; one brother Trong Dinh, Dodge City, KS; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
     Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2006 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Idabel, OK. Interment will follow at Denison Cemetery, Idabel. Father Hoang Le will officiate.

Johnnie Williams, 1910 - 2006

     Johnnie Mae Williams, 95, Idabel, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Idabel. She was born December 22, 1910 at Leary, Texas, the daughter of Silvan and Mary Lou Steadham Larry.
     Johnnie and Jack L. Williams were married in 1929 at DeQueen, AR. and she had lived in the community all of her life. She was of the Pentecostal Faith, a homemaker and loved taking care of her baby doll, Woodrow.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Williams; three sons, Roy Williams, George Williams and Charles Williams; one daughter, Mary Bryant and six grandchildren.
     Johnnie leaves to cherish her memory five daughters and three sons-in-law, Wanda Shields of Idabel, Donna Jackson of Fort Towson, Oleta and Larry Bryant of Idabel, Edna and Mike Carter of Clarksville, TX and Gina and Jimmy White of Tyler, TX.; 31 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2006 at Grace Assembly, Idabel, with Rev. Elwayne Schaeffer and Rev. James Carrell officiating. Interment will follow in Valliant Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, February 23, at Brumley Funeral Home, Idabel.

Olivia Grace Henthorn, 2005 - 2006

     Olivia Grace Henthorn, age 3 months, 2 days, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Idabel. She was born on November 16, 2005 at Idabel.
     Even though her life on this earth was not long, she filled each day of those who loved her with great joy. Every day with her was a blessing and will be treasured forever.

Dorothy Battiest, 1947 - 2006

     Dorothy Jean Nehka Battiest, 58, of Downy, California, passed away February 17, 2006. She was born June 9, 1947 in Corrine, OK the daughter of Phillip and Sibbie Jefferson Nehka.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Sibbie Jefferson Nehka; three sisters Nancy Nehka James, Georgian Nehka, Clara Nehka and a mother-in-law Rachel Battiest and brothers-in-law Kenny Battiest and Leonard Bond.
     Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her husband Marcus Ray Battiest, Jr. of the home; two daughters Sherry Lynn Battiest and Lisa Marie Battiest, Downy, CA; four grandchildren Erica, Desiree, Natalie, and Jessica Battiest all of Downy, CA; two sisters Serena Battiest, Wright City, OK and Betsy Bond, Bethel, OK; a host of nephews and nieces; close cousins William Myers, Elum Wesley, Harrison Thomas, and Daniel Thomas; and her close friend Olivene Samuels.

Johnny Phillips, 1920 - 2006

     Johnny Phillips, 86, of Wright City passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006 at Idabel. He was born January 22, 1920 in Spencerville to Andrew and Lena Horsenberger Phillips.
     Johnny retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1985 where he had worked for 36 years. After retiring, he worked for the U.S. Forestry Service’s Senior Citizens Program. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drinking coffee with his friends. Johnny was a member of Green’s Chapel Assembly of God Church and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Leona Mae Phillips; and a son, John Dale Phillips.
     Johnny is survived by his sons, Louie Dean Phillips of Lewisville, Texas, and Bobby Ray Phillips of Hughes Springs, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and David Madere of Wright City, Johnnie Murphy of Wright City, and Lois and Jerry Jones of Arlington, Texas; brothers, Jackie Phillips of Lebanon, Oregon, and Arden Phillips of Wright City; sisters Frances Flureury of Sweet Home, Oregon, and Helen Tennant of Canyon City, Colorado; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Betty Imogene Powell, 1934 - 2006

     Betty Imogene Powell, 71, of Idabel, passed away Friday, February 17, 2006 at her residence. She was born December 9, 1934 at Norman, Arkansas to Elie and Gladys Crump Markham.
     Imogene enjoyed quilting and sewing and loved her cat “Lucky”. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and had lived here for a short time moving from Arkansas.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Troy Gene Powell; and her sister, Irene Curry.
     Imogene is survived by her daughter, Sandra Dee Markham of Idabel; grandchildren, Juan Markham and Jose Hernandez both of Idabel; and a sister, Betty Williams of Norman, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Preston Steel, 1927 - 2006

     Preston Steel Sr. “P.”, 79, of Broken Bow, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2006, at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana. He was born February 6, 1927 in Hochatown, OK to Olza Thomas Steel and Josie (Higgins) Steel.
     Preston loved to fish, hunt, and camp out in his motor home. He was the owner and operator of Steel’s Tavern. He was known as a “gambling man”. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served our country in Korea.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Olza Thomas and Josie Steel; wife Gladys Mae (Milson) Steel; brothers, Carson W. and Clarence Steel; and one grandson.
     Preston leaves to cherish his memory sons Preston “Frankie” Steel, Jr. and wife June, and John Anthony “Tony” Steel all of Broken Bow; brother Archie Steel, Broken Bow, other brother Steve Lawrence, Broken Bow; one grandson, 3 granddaughters, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

James Hall, 1934 - 2006

     James “Coonie” Hall, 71, of Bethel passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at his residence. He was born November 2, 1934 in Butler, Georgia to Clifford Boyd and Eva Pearl Childress Hall. He married Patsy Hodge on December 22, 1967 in Marshall, Texas.
     James retired from Weyerhaeuser in May of 2001 where he had worked for 29 years as a millwright. Since retiring, he worked his summers for the State of Oklahoma Tourism Department on Carson Creek and Steven’s Gap Roads. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, was a member of the Battiest Assembly of God Church, and had lived in this area since 1972 moving from Louisiana. He loved working in his yard and working on his vehicles. James was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford Boyd Hall Jr., and Gerald Hall; sisters, Cornelia Amerson, and Bessie Tucker; a brother-in-law, Gary Hodge; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Hodge.
     James is survived by his wife, Patsy of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Felton and Ashley Hall of Bethel; daughter and son-in-law, DiAnn and Bobby Royal of Bethel; grandchildren, DaKoda Dowty, Shannan Dowty, and Tanner Royal all of Bethel; his mother-in-law, Irene Hodge of Bethel; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Jamie Cox of Reynolds, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Billy Paul and Mary Lou Baker of Bethel, Bob and Mary Hodge of Bethel, Wilma Hodge of Bethel, and Pat and Carolyn Hodge of Broken Bow; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be Friday, February 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Battiest Assembly of God Church with Bro. Ron Kellam and Bro. Larry Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.

Joe Bozeman, 1911 - 2006

     Joe Bozeman, 94, of Broken Bow, OK passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Ft. Smith, AR. He was born February 21, 1911 in Montgomery, AL to James and Pearl Bozeman.
     Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served our country during World War II. He was a member of the V.A., and enjoyed watching sports. Joe worked for the Highway Department most of his life. He loved animals, his favorite was puppies. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandkids. He was of the Baptist faith.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pearl Bozeman; first wife LaVenna Ambler; companion of twenty-four years Sybil Turpin; step-daughter Gwen Wylie and husband Gary Wylie Sr.; brothers Cecil, Rosco, Sylvester, Eldridge, and Warren Leon Bozeman; and sisters Leana Kate Bozeman Lee and Gertrude Bozeman Finley.

Troy Dickerson, 1927 - 2006

     Troy Cleve Dickerson, 78, of Eagletown, OK, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at his residence. He was born October 29, 1927 in Arkinda, AR. to Joseph William and Effie Lee Bates Dickerson.
     Cleve Dickerson and Birtie Lee Thweatt were united in marriage on September 17, 1949 in Paris, TX. Cleve was affiliated with the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on vehicles, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his friends and family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Effie Dickerson; and son, Wayne Dickerson.

Georgie Settles, 1926 - 2006

     Georgie Lee Settles, 80, of Garvin, Okla passed away February 13, 2006 at Paris, Tx. She was born January 20, 1926 near Garvin, Okla to Florence and George Hallum. She loved working in her garden, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Settles, her mother and father, Florence and George Hallum, and her sister, Myrtle McCleskey.
     She is survived by five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Alice and Eddie Hancock of Lubbock, TX, Betty and Merril Bunn of Garvin, Okla., Eva and Lloyd Murphy of Garvin, Okla., Lorene Austin of Idabel, Okla. and Nellie McCleskey of Paris, TX., two brothers and one sister-in-law, Charlie and Minnie Hallum of Garvin, Okla., and Earnest Hallum of Garvin, Okla. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services will be 2:00 Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at Norwood Chapel with Brother Jim Mashburn and Brother Dick Logan presiding. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
     Visitation is scheduled tonight, February 14, at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Pam German, 1954 - 2006

     Pam German, 51, of Broken Bow, OK passed away Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center in Tulsa. She was born September 4, 1954 in DeQueen, AR to John Aaron and Alice (Batchelor) Rankins.
     Pam loved floating the river, softball, taking care of people, and being with her family. She was of the Baptist faith.
     She was preceded in death by her brother Anthony Aaron; sister Valerie Taylor; grandparents Spencer and Velma Batchelor and John and Nettie Aaron; step-father James Rankins; and uncle M.V. Batchelor.

     Freda Janet Tisho, 49, of Broken Bow, passed away February 12, 2006 at Wright City, OK. She was born July 14, 1956, in Talihina, OK, the daughter of Jerry Noah Sr. and Amanda Holmes.
     Freda loved softball, reading, volleyball, and spending time with her family and grandbaby. She was a member of Tohwali United Methodist Church.

     Nancy Lorene Carrell, 59, of Haworth, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Eufaula. She was born December 12, 1946 in Williamson County, Tennessee to Hershel and Thelma Binkley Carrell.
     Nancy Lorene was a retired assembly line worker and enjoyed reading and gardening. She was affiliated with the Baptist faith and had lived in Haworth since 1965 moving from Tennessee.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Frances May, Betty Ballentine, and Patricia Ann Carrell; brothers, Donald Carrell and Robert Carrell.

     Juanita Belle (Tonihka) Spanke, 56, of Battiest, passed away February 10, 2006 at her residence. She was born October 25, 1949, in Talihina, OK, the daughter of John Tonihka and Rosie Samuels.

James Howard Dennis, 1933 - 2006

     James Howard Dennis, 72, of Broken Bow, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital, Hugo, OK. He was born October 14, 1933 in Bowie County Texas, the son of Paul and Martha Ophelia Tidwell Dennis.
     James was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, TX and was the president of the Lyons Club in Pittsburg, TX. He retired from Pilgrim’s Pride Industries as a Quality Control Supervisor and he enjoyed woodworking, watching the Martins fly in his back yard, gardening and flying. James loved his family and God.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Martha Dennis.

Wilburn Brakebill, 1938 - 2006

     Wilburn Brakebill, 68, of Idabel, went home to rest in the Lord on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Idabel. He was born February 7, 1938 at the Shults Community, the son of Henry Albert and Susie Smith Brakebill. He married Emma Land on November 10, 1961 in Hugo.
     Wilburn was a retired mechanic, having worked for the City of Idabel for 22 years. He was an avid CB operator and enjoyed auctions, and drinking coffee with his friends. Wilburn loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He loved his country and had served in the United States Air Force. Wilburn was affiliated with the Calvary Baptist Church and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty June Pole, and Dora Mae Allen; and brothers, Lewis R. “Runt” Brakebill, and Lloyd Brakebill.

     Chris Akguenlue, 15, of Broken Bow, passed away February 7, 2006 at his residence. He was born November 26, 1990, in Landstuhl, Germany, the son of Semih Akguenlue and Laurie Herd.
     Chris was affiliated with the Baptist faith. He was a freshman at Broken Bow High School and loved skateboarding, golfing, and video games. Chris loved his family and friends.

     Fred “Bill” Ward, 55, of Broken Bow, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, TX. He was born September 24, 1950 in Idabel to Roy L. Ward and Leola B. Myrick.
     He loved to fish and hunt, and danced as often as he could. He served our country in the United States Army. He was of the Baptist faith.

     Rosie was a member of Rock Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Honobia, OK. She enjoyed fishing, singing and going to singings, gardening, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Carolyn Bond, one sister, Ruby Taylor, and one brother, Adam Bond.

Ernest Whisenhunt, 1926 - 2006

     Ernest Whisenhunt, 79, of Idabel, passed away Monday, February 6, 2006 at Texarkana. He was born November 14, 1926 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
     He was the next to youngest of 5 children born to Charlie and Jessie (McKeever) Whisenhunt. He married Delma Coffey on October 15, 1949 in Ashdown, Arkansas.
     Ernest was a veteran of World War II serving from May 1945 to January 1947 primarily in Italy. He owned and managed NAPA Auto Parts, as well as Whisenhunt Insurance & Real Estate Agency. For the last 30 years Ernest had been actively engaged as a real estate developer and home builder, developing Unique Country Homes along with several other properties.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Johnny, Lowell, and HC; and a daughter-in-law, Janice (Mozingo) Whisenhunt.
     Ernest is survived by his wife, Delma Whisenhunt of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Russel Whisenhunt of Euless, Texas, Vernon and Janice Whisenhunt of Weatherford, Texas, Gary and Chryste Whisenhunt of Keller, Texas, Kenneth and Ada Whisenhunt of Keller, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Orval Donaldson of Ringold, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

     Rebecca H. Tucker, 87, of Broken Bow, passed away February 5, 2006 at her home. She was born August 1, 1918 in Rufe, Oklahoma to John and Sarah Hornbeck.
     When Rebecca was just a young girl she moved to the west coast, then to New Mexico, and after 24 years she moved back home. She was of the Baptist Faith.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, George Tucker, her parents, and 1 grandson.

     James A. Willie, 78, former Idabel resident, passed away Friday, February 3, 2006 at Oklahoma City. He was born October 23, 1927 at Idabel to Hodges and Ida Tushka Willie.
     James was a veteran of Korea and had served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He was affiliated with the Baptist Faith.

     Ethel Estelle Farley, 88, Haworth, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Oak Grove Manor, Idabel. She was born March 6, 1917 at Jadie, OK. the daughter of Sid and Molly McGough.
     Ethel and Theo Farley were married December 22, 1934 at Wright City and made their home in Shinewell, OK. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of this community all of her life. She was affiliated with Shinewell Community Church, member of Shinewell Quilting Club and Eastern Star.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo Farley on October 14, 2004; her mother and father, Sid and Molly McGough; four sisters, Mary Simpson, Alice Talley, Ellon Slabough, and Winifred “Tip” Garrison; three brothers, Nathan McGough, Eugene McGough and Willie “Fat” McGough.

Chris Wheeler, 1953 - 2006

     Chris Wheeler, 52, of Valliant, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at Valliant.
     Chris was born September 28, 1953 in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Ward and Nadine Moye and had lived in Valliant since 1971.
     She worked at the McCurtain County courthouse for over 20 years. She was also a licensed beautician.
     She was preceded in death by her mother, her maternal grandparents, Walter “Bob” and Beatrice DeGraffenreid and her paternal grandparents, Ople and Ora Moye. Chris enjoyed working, shooting, going sightseeing in the hills, was known for having the cleanest house in the family and was very excited about her first granddaughter, Rory Faye. She married Billy Wheeler on December 22, 1973 in Valliant.
     She is survived by her former husband, Billy Wheeler of Valliant; her father, Ward Moye and his wife, Pat, of Valliant; two daughters, Laura Mitchell and husband, Tim of Haileyville, OK and Jennifer Marlow and her husband, Chris of Idabel, OK; one sister, Rosemarie King of Ringold, OK, four brothers, Wesley Moye of Valliant, Leon Mueller of Wichita, Kansas, Gerry Mueller of Oklahoma City, OK, and Ronnie Mueller of Paris, TX one granddaughter, Rory Faye Marlow. Numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend, Benny Watson.
     Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 2006 at 10:00 A.M at the 1st Baptist Church, Valliant with Bro. Mike Mings officiating.
     Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 11:00 A.M at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Oklahoma City, OK with burial to follow.
     The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 02, 2006 at the Miller & Miller funeral home, Valliant.

Charlotte Benton, 1943 - 2006

     Charlotte Benton, 62, Idabel, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born August 3, 1943 at Idabel, OK, the daughter of Melvin & Faye Pauline Massey Davis.
     She enjoyed reading, watching the food network, crocheting, sewing, and spending time with family and friends. She was affiliated with the Baptist Faith.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Pauline Davis; brother, Larry Davis; and nephew, Larry Davis Jr.
     Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Robert Eugene Benton of the home; one son, Herbert Wayne Bruce Benton of Columbus, OH; three daughters and two sons-in-law; Judy and Mike Williams, Lisa and Terry Adams all of Eagletown, and Melva Sikes of Okmulgee, OK; five brothers, Farrell Davis, Indianapolis, IN, Bill Davis, Hochatown, Bruce Davis, Horatio, AR, Hoyt Davis, Lake White City, FL, and David Davis, Idabel; one sister Carol Walls, Valliant, Ok; thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five aunts, one uncle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Oak Grove Community with Rev. Cletus Hawkins and Rev. Greg Curtis officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Creek Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends Friday, February 3, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Brumley Chapel in Broken Bow. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Mildred June Barnett, 1943 - 2006

     Mildred June Barnett, officially known as “June Bug”, 62, Garvin, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at her home in Garvin. She was born May 17, 1943 at Fontana, CA. the daughter of Thomas & Irene Gassaway.
     She enjoyed serving others, especially with her cooking, loved life and spending time with family and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her father, Tommy Gassaway Sr. and father of her children, Jerry Canant.
     June leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Tony Barnett of the home; her mother, Irene Taylor of West Virginia; three sons, Gerald “Butch” Canant and family of Millerton, Chuck Canant and family of Idabel and Bryan Barnett of Oklahoma City, OK; one daughter, Annette Barnett of Holly Creek; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Canant mother of Shane and Thomas Canant and beloved and very caring Shauna Canant; two brothers, Tommy Gassaway Jr of Reno, NV. and Bobby Shmahl of West Virginia; four sisters, Virginia York of Illinois, Chris Taylor, Susie Havenery and Christine Taylor all of West Virginia; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
     Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Idabel with Rev. Ron Short and Chaplin Tony Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Glover Cemetery, Glover.
     In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Bank & Trust in memory of June Barnett.

Ruby Lancaster, 1963 - 2006

     Ruby Ann Lancaster, 43, Broken Bow, passed away Monday, January 30, 2006, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Idabel. She was born January 22, 1963 at Antlers, OK. the daughter of Junior and Ruby Billy.
     Ruby and Winston Lancaster were married December 10, 2003 at Texarkana, AR. She was a health care provider, affiliated with First Assembly of God, Broken Bow and had lived in this community all of her life. She loved taking care of her animals, making dream catchers, collecting angels and spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Nellie Billy; sister, Wanda Hammons; brother, Harold Wayne Taylor.
     Ruby leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Winston Lancaster, of the home; mother, Ruby Billy of Wright City; father, Junior Billy and wife Mary of Sobel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilber and Mary Lancaster of Tallapoosa, GA.; two sons Reginal “Bubba” Park and Laura of Wright City, Damion Lancaster and wife Janice of Chatsworth, GA.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Reggie Scales and Raguel and Nick John all of Idabel and Amy Shoemaker of Chatsworth, GA.; one brother, Dewayne Billy of Wright City; four step-brothers, Dennis Lancaster of Tallapoosa, GA., Herbert Lancaster of Chatsworth, GA., Tony Lancaster of Harrison, AR. and Scott Lancaster of Branson, MO.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Richard Park of Wright City, Eliza and Larry Young and Dinna and Grover Trusty all of Ringold; eleven grandchildren, Kimberly Allen, Sarah Shoemaker, Dayla Scales, Darrin Scales, Ryan Scales, Reece Scales, Chantey Lee, Nicky John, Zoe Spears, Amyia Park and Kyle Passmore; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
     Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Idabel with Rev. Randy Watkins officiating.
     The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 2, at Brumley Funeral Home, Idabel.

J.W. Bean, 1934 - 2006

     J.W. Bean, 73, of Idabel, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at his residence. He was born July 7, 1934 at Golden, the son of James and Lillie Jones Bean.
     J. W. was a retired mechanic. He enjoyed riding his scooter and visiting with his friends. J.W. was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry Bean; brothers, Leon Bean, Eugene Bean, and Leroy Bean.
     J.W. is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Rex Wilburn of Broken Bow, Karen and Buck Rowan of Wright City, and Vicky and Joey Gennaro of LaPlace, Louisiana; sisters, Elizabeth Milligan of Broken Bow, and Lottie Sutton of New Mexico; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Hollycreek Cemetery with Bro. Mickey Haley officiating.
     The family will receive friends Thursday, February 2, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
