Linda Green, 1943 - 2006
Linda Green, 63, Broken Bow, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, TX. She was born January 10, 1943, at Idabel, OK, the daughter of Ulas and Thelma (Farley) Cooke.
Linda lived in McCurtain County all of her life. She was a member of Broken Bow Church of Christ. She visited with the elderly often. Linda enjoyed her grandchildren immensely, and loved spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulas and Thelma Cooke; and brother, Roger Wayne Cooke.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 46 years, Monte Green, of the home; sons, Rocky Green and wife Becky, Broken Bow, OK, Robbin Green and wife Debra, Houston, TX; sister, Dana and husband Bill Porton, Broken Bow; five grandchildren, Carli, Caydi, and Cody Green, all of Broken Bow, and Sydney and Kyle Green, both of Houston, TX; four aunts, Dale and husband Dr. Lawrence Valentine, Idabel, OK, Helen Hendrix, Idabel, OK, Alice and husband Albert Wilson, McGregor, TX, and Leota Smith, Irving, TX; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 30, at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, OK, with Dan Fredman officiating. Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery, Idabel, OK.

Ray Gill, 1921 - 2006
Ray Gill, 85, of Broken Bow, passed away December 28, 2006 at Paris Regional Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1921, in Broken Bow, OK the son of James Thomas and Martha Jean (Jones) Gill.
Ray was affiliated with Good News Fellowship. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and being a mechanic. Ray loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Martha Gill; daughter, Betty Jean Gill; granddaughter, Helen Vance; brother, Luther Gill Sr.; sisters, Fay Vincent, and Helen Gerand.
Ray leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Vivian E. Gill, of the home; brother, Clifton Gill, Checotah, OK, sons, James Gill, Tommy Gill and wife Jennifer, Clifton Gill, and Charles Ray Gill, all of Broken Bow; daughters, Vickie Roath, of the home, Charlotte Cole and husband John, Patricia Rankins and husband Raymond, Martha Caramez and husband Jose, Mary Shomo and husband Sherrill, all of Broken Bow; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Graveside services will be at 10 AM Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Glover Cemetery, Glover Community. Dr. Doug Deramus will officiate.

Rosie Reid, 1920 - 2006
Rosie Reid, 86, longtime resident of McCurtain County, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Idabel. She was born May 24, 1920 at Broken Bow, the daughter of Harlen and Mary Elizabeth Cook Reid.
Rosie was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rosie was affiliated with the Presbyterian Faith and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
son, Harlen Reid; and eleven brothers and sisters.
Rosie is survived by her grandchildren, Leisa and Preston Wheeler of Idabel, Jeff Reid of Idabel, and Stephanie Peebles of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren, Koty Wheeler and Skyler Wheeler both of Idabel, Ashlyn Sylvia and Marissa Peebles both of Mt. Vernon; a daughter-in-law, Pat Reid Dalpoas of Hartshorne; a sister, Vivian “Sis” Barnes of Leoti, Kansas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Wallace Floyd, 1919 - 2006
Wallace Floyd, 87, of Idabel, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Idabel. He was born May 31, 1919 at Clarksville, TX, the son of Wallace West and Clara Varley Floyd. On January 13, 1981 he married Ruth Tassey at DeQueen, AR. He was of the Methodist Faith.
Wallace was a veteran, enlisting in the United States Navy after graduating high school. He lived most of his lifetime in the area.
Wallace never met a stranger. There were many stories shared with family and friends over coffee.
He wore many hats in his lifetime. Wallace was most well-known as the local Medical Examiner Investigator. He served the area for 22 years. He cared greatly for the families of McCurtain County, not only serving them, but respecting them. At one time he had owned the local chevy dealership, the local pool hall, he sold insurance and he loved playing dominoes.
Wallace was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Ruth Floyd and his parents.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie Williamson of Idabel, and Vicki and Phil Maxey of Texas; sister, Frances DeBerry of Idabel; grandchildren, Kaylyn and Geoffry Williamson of Idabel, Jim and Kathy Campbell of the Harris Community, Bryan Campbell of Dallas, TX and D.D. Maxey of Dallas, TX; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends.

Cary Pugh, 1961 - 2006
Cary Pugh, 45, of Idabel, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Tulsa. He was born April 19, 1961 at Hobbs, NM, the son of Jerrel Pugh and Caroline Jones. He was of the Pentecostal Faith.
Cary had lived in Idabel most of his lifetime,
moving from New Mexico before he was one year old. He loved hunting and fishing.
He loved growing tomatoes in garden, even if it were just a few plants. He was
crazy about his oldest grandson, Slade Coleman.
Cary was preceded in death by his father, Jerrel
Pugh, grandfathers, Charley Jones, Sr. and William Pugh, infant son, Cody Jordan,
one aunt, Sue Pugh Hill and two uncles, Wayne Pugh and Larry Don Pugh.
He is survived by his mother Caroline Jones, daughter and son-in-law, Shaina and Michael Hampton, brothers, Larry Dale Pugh and Jerrel Ray Pugh, 2 grandsons, Slade Coleman and Cayman Hampton, grandmothers, Louellon Jones and Cleo Pugh, all of Idabel, aunts and uncles, Charlie Jones, Jr., Neta Pugh, Jimmie and Pattie Pugh, Linda K. Prim, and Vicki Luman, several nieces, cousins, other relative and a host of friends.

Dorothy Lee Rind, 1932 - 2006
Dorothy Lee Rind, 74, Pickens, passed away Friday, December 15, 2006, at Pushmataha County Hospital, Antlers, OK. She was born April 28, 1932, at Bethel, OK, the daughter of Ben and Lutie (Romine) Bodiford.
Dorothy lived in McCurtain County most of her life. She was a member of the Silver Creek Church of Christ and enjoyed quilting, cooking, collecting antiques, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Lutie Bodiford; six brothers, Letus, Cleo, Milford, infant Leo, Claude and Dee Bodiford; one sister, Gladys Backlund.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John Rind, Pickens, OK; son, Garry Rind and wife Debbie, McAlester, OK; daughter, Sharon Davis, Broken Bow; brother, Bob Bodiford and wife Luann, Hot Springs, AR; two sisters, Robbie Allen and husband Earl, and Frankie Davis, all of Broken Bow; three grandchildren, Ashley Lappin and husband Michael, Broken Bow, Dillon and Madeline Rind, McAlester; one great-grandchild, Lani Grace Lappin, Broken Bow, and many friends.

Barbara "Sue" Jacobs, 65, Broken Bow, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Broken Bow, OK. She was born July 17, 1941, at Broken Bow, OK, the daughter of Walter and Geraldine (Shipman) Thomas.
Sue lived in McCurtain County most of her life. She never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face. She loved cleaning her house, taking care of her mother and spending time with her family and friends. She was affiliated with Good News Fellowship Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Thomas; son, Wayne Hopkins; granddaughter, Casie Neurenberg; brother, Kenneth "Shine" Thomas.

Ola Jean Murrin, 1925 - 2006
Ola Jean Murrin, 81, Bethel, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Idabel, OK. She was born October 16, 1925, at Battiest, OK, the daughter of Euel and Flossie Knight.
Ola lived in McCurtain County most of her life. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed taking care of her cattle.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
Euel and Flossie Knight; husband, William "Frank" Murrin; and sister,
Louise Williams.
Ola leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Maxine Brock; WI; three nieces, Sharon Harris, Lynda Terry, and Pam McNeal; three nephews, Steve Williams, Brian Williams, and David Brock, all of CA, and, many friends.
Services will be at 2 PM Monday, December 18, at Bethel Baptist Church, Bethel, OK. Interment will follow in Battiest Cemetery, Battiest, OK.

Adam Oliver, 1981 - 2006
Adam Oliver, 25, of the Goodwater Community, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Idabel. He was born February 20, 1981 at New Orleans, LA, the son of Rick Oliver and Rebecca Lang. On December 31, 2002 he married Jasmine Burns at DeQueen, AR. He was affiliated with the Tom Baptist Church.
Enlisting in 1999, Adam proudly served the Army National Guard as a fire team leader of his infantry unit. He served in Egypt during Operation Enduring Freedom from October 2002 to August 2003. He also participated in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in New Orleans, LA. He was employed by L-3 Communications in Waco, TX. He had lived in McCurtain County for more than 10 years after moving from Texas.
Adam was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Victor Alvin Lang and his paternal grandfather, Leland Oliver.
He is survived by his wife, Jasmine Oliver of the home; 2 sons, Eric Blaine Burns and Taylor Adam Oliver of the home; father, Rick Oliver of Waco, TX; mother, Becky Lang of Brady, TX; sister, Amber Hurst of Floresville, TX; brother, Patrick Oliver of Florida; maternal grandparents, Marshall and Mary Jo McDonald of Tom; paternal grandmother, Marilyn Hayes of Eufaula; father-in-law, Jackie Burns of the Goodwater Community; mother-in-law, Virginia Cash of the Goodwater Community; brother-in-law, Zack Burns of Ft. Ruby Pearl Jones Galloway, 1907 - 2006
Ruby Pearl Jones Galloway, 99, of Idabel, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Idabel. She was born November 20, 1907 in Alma, Arkansas, the daughter of David and Martha Drusilla Young Porton.
Ruby was a homemaker, as well as working on the family farm and ranch. She enjoyed fishing, and was affiliated with the Grace Assembly Church in Idabel. Ruby was a longtime resident of McCurtain County, moving here at the age of four in a covered wagon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ernest Jones, and John D. Galloway; a son, Andrew Jones; a daughter, Faye Henthorn; sisters, Josie Henthorn and Katie Campbell; and her brothers, John Porton, Harve Porton, Marvin Baldwin, and Dock Baldwin.
Ruby is survived by a son and daughters-in-law, Dock and Ella Nora Jones, and Jean Jones all of Idabel; grandchildren, Dr. Wayne Jones of Durant, Renee’ Haynes and husband Ken, Donna Berg and husband Todd, Johnnie Jones and wife Sandy, Andrea Wright and husband Bob, and Sharon Lumsden all of Idabel, and Jimmy Henthorn of Kingston; step-children, Calvin and Eva Jean Galloway of Tom, Kenneth and Mamie Galloway, Carlene and Rosa Lee all of Ashdown, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Wanda Porton of Idabel; special friends, Hazel and John Sullivan, Mary Jo and George Posey, Verna and Eddie Vann, and Darlene Ridge; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Katie L. Willingham, 1923 - 2006
Katie L. Willingham, 83, of Tucson, AZ, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Tucson, AZ. She was born December 10, 1923 at Swink, in the oldest known standing home in the state of Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Robert and Lora Polly Blair.
Katie was raised in Swink, OK. On September 15, 1945 she married Lonnie Willingham. They moved to Arizona in 1989. She was a member of the local Baptist Church in Tucson, AZ and was a devout Southern Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Willingham and her parents.
Katie is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jim and Cathy Willingham and Robert Willingham, all of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter Kristine Thompson of Salt Lake City, UT; 2 grandsons, James Peterson and Tyler Peterson of Salt Lake City, UT; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Conley-White Chapel with Bro. Bob Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Swink Cemetery.

Charles "Leo" Hudgins, 68, of Broken Bow, passed away December 10, 2006, at his residence. He was born June 4, 1938, in Haworth, OK, the son of Charlie Boyd and Esta Marie (Ebert) Hudgins.
Charles was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He liked hunting, fishing, and gardening. Charles loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hudgins; father, Charlie Hudgins; son-in-law, Danny Ledford; grandson, Christopher Ware; brothers-in-law, George Fedler, Royce Boyd, and Wayne Reece.

B.C. Copeland, 1937 - 2006
B.C. Copeland, 69, Broken Bow, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital, Hugo. He was born March 1, 1937, at Pickens, OK, the son of Stanley and Audrey (Baker) Copeland.
B.C. married Shirley on August 15, 1997, at Hatfield, AR. He was a veteran who served our country in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired Diesel Mechanic for Darryl Thomason Trucking Co. After retirement he enjoyed riding his Harley cross-country with his beloved wife and friends. He was affiliated with Green Chapel Assembly of God in Wright City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Audrey Copeland; and son, Bryan Keith Rowan.

Bryan Keith Rowan, 41, Durant, OK passed away Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Durant, OK. He was born February 26, 1965, at De Queen, AR, the son of Willis Rowan and Shirley (White) Copeland.
Bryan was affiliated with the Assemblies of God. He enjoyed collecting Native American culture, riding horses and checking on the cows in the field. Bryan loved spending time with family and friends.

Gary Howard, 61, of Idabel, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was born January 22, 1945 at Mt. Pleasant, Texas, the son of Ned and Nell Howard.
Gary worked in the family business with H & S Contractors of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He was a loving and devoted husband, son, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, sports and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Ned Howard.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Wanda Howard, of the home; mother, Nell Howard of Mt. Charles E. Luesada, 1938 - 2006
Charles E. Luesada, 67, former Idabel resident, passed away Monday, December 4, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born December 29, 1938 at Millerton, OK the son of Buddy and Maggie Luesada.
Charles attended part of high school at Antlers, then graduated at Ft. Bragg, CA in 1957. He then attended college at Southeastern Oklahoma State University at Durant and Antelope Valley College at Lancaster, CA. He was employed for many years at National Cement, Inc. as a supervisor and Foreman in Leber, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Luesada.
Charles is survived by his wife Patsy Fields Luesada of Grand Junction, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Caroll Ann and Dennis Seematter; grandson, D.J. Seematter; granddaughter, Angelina Rose Seematter all of Lake Stevens, Washington; brother Curtis Luesada and family of Seminole, OK; numerous other relative and friends.
Graveside services will be 11:30 Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Valliant Cemetery with Bro. Blake Gideon officiating.

L. B. Tillman, 1930 - 2006
L. B. Tillman, 76, of Holly Creek, passed away Monday, December 4, 2006 in Idabel. He was born November 4, 1930 in Texarkana, Texas. He married Lou Bates on June 3, 1961 in Idabel.
L. B. was a self-employed independent contractor
delivering Coca Cola products all over McCurtain County for 31 years. He
was affectionately known as the "Coke Man". L.B. was a veteran of the U.S.
Marine Corp. having served in the Korean War. He enjoyed playing golf and
visiting with his friends at the Broken Bow Nutrition Center. L.B. loved
spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member
of the Holly Creek Community Church and had lived in McCurtain County since
1961 moving from Texarkana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Pat Thompson, and a daughter, Jeannie Tillman.
L. Frank Henry Contreras, 1974 - 2006
Frank Henry Contreras, 32, of Haworth passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Idabel, OK. He was born June 27, 1974, at Shelby, MS to Patsy Ochoa and Frank Contreras. He was of the Catholic faith.
Frank enjoyed fishing and playing video games. He lived in Idabel for the past 15 years, after moving here from Houston, TX.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Alfredo Ochoa; uncle, Domingo Ochoa; and aunts, Isabel Aguliar and Martina Ochoa.
Frank is survived by his mother, Patsy Ochoa Lanham of Haworth; sons, Andre Contreras, Brayton Contreras, and Dakota Williston all of Idabel; brothers and sister-in-law, Bobby and Jackie Lanham of Idabel, and Junior Lanham of Houston; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Nanez of Holly Creek, Patricia and Max Chavez of Houston, Joann and Jose Hernandez of Houston, and Kathy Mejorado of Idabel; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2006 at the Conley-White Chapel. Inurnment will follow at a later date.

 Anna Mae Johnson, 1941 - 2006
Anna Mae Johnson, 65, of Idabel, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Idabel. She was born August 2, 1941 at DeKalb, TX, the daughter of Amanda and Alan Hilton. She married Sam Edgar Johnson on July 3, 1974.
Anna was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and Troy Aikman was her favorite player. She loved Nascar racing, especially Dale Earnhart, Jr. She collected cat trinkets, enjoyed reading romance novels and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sam Johnson, 3 sons, Earl Wayne Presley, Billy Wheeler, Earney Vinzant, sister, Delores Penny, two brothers, Bobby and Jerry Wheeler.
Anna is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Donna Wheeler of Richardson, MS, Andy and Paula Vinzant of Jackson, MS and Sammy, Sandy Johnson of Broken Bow, OK; 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Tommy Cooke of Idabel, Wanda and Doyle Hughes of Asher, OK, Lynn and Dennis Lord of Franklin, TN, Liz and Jerry Donaldson of Richardson, MS, Donna and Kerry Richardson of Idabel, OK; 3 brothers, John Paul Wheeler of Dekalb, TX, James Henry Wheeler of Texarkana, TX, Phillip Foster of Idabel, OK; 2 sisters, Norma Hilton of Haworth, OK, Margie Pate of New Boston, TX; 22 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Conley-White Chapel with Rev. Elwayne Schaeffer officiating. Interment will follow at the Canfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.

Bobby Self, 1943 - 2006
Bobby Self, 63, of Idabel, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2006. He was born January 28, 1943 at Luxora, Arkansas.
Bobby was a self-employed rancher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was affiliated with the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Lottie Gookin Self.
Bobby is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Christy Self of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, and Mark and Julie Self of Kingsville, Texas; grandchildren, Cole Self of Kingsville, Texas, Addison Self and Ashley Self both of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; the mother of his children, Gail Self of Broken Bow; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and John Travis, Charlene and Jan Storey, and Shirley and Roger Butler all of Idabel; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside Services were at 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2006 at Denison Cemetery in Idabel.

Clara Myers, 1916 - 2006
Clara Myers died November 17th at Sunview Care Center in Youngtown, Arizona.
She was born March 1, 1916 at Iron Stob, Oklahoma, moving to Arizona in 1950.
She was the sixth child of John and Myrtle Maddux
of the Forest Grove Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband Isaac
Myers in 1963, and son Bill Myers in 1986. She is survived by her sons Charles
Myers of Scottsdale, Arizona , Bob Myers of Datil, New Mexico and her daughter,
Drucella Garver of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also survived by one brother
Johnny Maddux of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She had six grand children, Dr. Sherman Garver III of Tucson, Arizona, Jerry and Kevin Garver of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Rhonda Mariott of Sun City, Arizona, Lori Martinez of Reserve, New Mexico, and Eric Myers of Tempe, Arizona.
She had twelve great grand children, and one great, great, grandchild, all of whom she loved and cherished.
She enjoyed a full and eventful life as Supervisor of Nurses for the H. Clark Ford Foundation in Phoenix, Arizona and Honolulu, Hawaii, retiring after 25 years of service.
One of her favorite Oklahoma memories was preparing
lunch for the children of Forest Grove Elementary School in the late 1940s, years
later recalling all the children by their first names.
Memorial Services were private.

Michael Ed Brown, 43, of Broken Bow, passed away on November 22, 2006. He was born August 6, 1963, in Kermit, TX, the son of Bill and Martha (Jetton) Brown.
Michael worked as a truck driver for Jimmy Tucker Trucking. He loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family.

William "Willie" Parker, 49, of Broken
Bow passed away Monday, December 4, 2006 at Idabel.
He was born September
23, 1957 at Idabel to Betty Bunn and Theodore "Ted" Parker.
He lived
most of his life in McCurtain County. William was affiliated with Faith
Assembly of God Church in Idabel.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing
his guitar. He served in the U. S. Air Force. At various times he was
a paramedic for McCurtain County, on the police force in Durant and Idabel,
was a lab technician at Mcurtain County and worked at Norwood Funeral
Home.
He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Kristie LaDae;
half brothers, Julius Weaver Cook, Jr. and James Troy Cook. William leaves
to cherish his memory his sons and daughter-in-law, Keith and Renee Parker
of Broken Bow and Chance Parker of Idabel; their mother and her daughter,
Peggy and Kaitlyn Parker of Idabel; biological mother, Betty Morris of
Holly Creek community; his mom and dad, William and Daisy Nix of Broken
Bow; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Bob Tidmore of Muskogee,

Bonnie M. Hutchison, 1940 - 2006
Bonnie M. Hutchison, 66, Broken Bow, OK, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Broken Bow. She was born November 16, 1940 at Guion, AR., the daughter of Ewin and Rosie
(Arnold) Wheelis.
Bonnie Wheelis and Edward Hughes Hutchison were united in marriage on October 24, 1960 in Winslow, AZ. She was affiliated with Hochatown Assembly of God. Bonnie enjoyed working in her yard, cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ewin and Rosie Wheelis.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Ed Hutchison, of the home; son, Scott Hutchison and wife Lisa, Broken Bow, OK; daughters, Gail Brown and husband James, Broken Bow, OK., Leslie McDaniel and husband Mark, Hochatown, OK.; brothers, Lowell Wheelis, Melbourne, AR., Bob Wheelis, Jonesboro, AR., nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Honorable Don Ed Payne, 1938 - 2006
Honorable Don Ed Payne, 68, of Ft. Towson/Idabel, passed away Friday, December 1, 2006 at his residence in Idabel. He was born September 10, 1938 in Eufala, Oklahoma. Don Ed was a 1956 graduate of Eufala High School. Attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma from 1956-1958, University of Tulsa, receiving his B.A. in History and Political Science in 1959, and LL.B. in 1962.
Don Ed was Associate District Judge for Choctaw County. He had a long distinguished career in both the private practice of law as well as serving as a Judge and District Attorney. Don Ed was County Judge for McCurtain County from 1963-1964, County Attorney for McCurtain County from 1964-1965, District Attorney for the 17th District of Oklahoma including McCurtain, Choctaw, and Pushmataha Counties from 1965-1971, private practice of law, devoted primarily to the defense of criminal cases in Hugo, Oklahoma from 1971-1995, Associate District Judge for Choctaw County from 1995 till the time of his death.
He was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed running and had participated in several marathons. He was a current member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, and the Texas Bar Association. Don Ed had received several awards including the Oklahoma Bar Association Courageous Advocate Award in 1989, Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Lord Erskine Award in 1994, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma, Angie Debo Award in 1994. He also lectured and instructed at seminars and trainings for trial lawyers (primarily in the areas of criminal defense and defense of death penalty cases) sponsored by the various legal organizations. Don Ed also served as an instructor in CLEET certification classes for peace officers, and was currently a volunteer adjunct instructor for Eastern Oklahoma State College, teaching primarily Criminal Justice and Corrections Classes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard C. and Margaret K. McCracken Payne; and a son, Spencer Hall.
Don Ed is survived by his wife, Susan Spencer of Idabel; a son, Nathan Hall of Ft. Towson; brother and sister-in-law, Larry Joe and Nancy Payne of McKinney, Texas; sister-in-law and her husband, Sheri and Paul Chandler of Broken Bow; brother-in-law and wife, Gary and Linda Spencer of Sunnyvale, Texas; sister-in-law and husband, Cindy and Tom Bush of Las Vegas, Nevada; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved animals, Max, Inkblot, Rorschach, Boo Kitty, Luther, Tommy Gray, and Mr. Lears.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Idabel.
