Cecil Lucille (Doan) Harless,

     Cecil Lucille (Doan) Harless, 90, of Idabel, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 8:25 p.m. in Idabel. She was born February 7, 1916 in Jadie, Oklahoma the daughter of Henry and Fannie Doan.
     Cecil was dedicated wife, and mother. The greatest joy of her life was getting together every year at family reunions and sharing stories of the past with other members of the Doan family. Cecil was a devoted Christian and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jess Harless; sisters, Mae Williamson, Dorothy Petty, and Rebecca “Becky” Adams; brothers, Doyle “Dick” Doan, Raymond Doan, Alton “Buck” Doan, and Coy Doan.
     Cecil leaves to cherish her memory a son, Merwin Harless of Broken Bow; sisters, Anna Lee Gray of California, Faye McCarrell of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Geneva Clowers of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Eddie Nelson of Livingston, Texas; a nephew, Larry Doan who has been taking care of her for the past two years in her home; several othe nieces, nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Conley-White Funeral Chapel in Idabel. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery.

David Mussett, 1941 - 2006

     David Mussett, 64, Rufe, OK, passed away April 25, 2006 at Veterans Hospital, Bonham, TX. He was born July 24, 1941 in Rufe, OK, the son of Frank Lewis Mussett and Mabel Marie (Land) Mussett and had lived all of his life in Rufe. He married Dixie K. Tollett on September 2, 1989 at Rufe.
     David was a Carpenter and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Rufe Baptist Church and enjoyed playing his guitar at services. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, turkey hunting most of all.
     He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Roy James Mussett.
     David is survived by his mother, Marie Mussett of Rufe, his wife, Dixie K. Mussett and her children, Mary Hash of Smithville, Arkansas, Monty Tollett of Rufe, Paula Tollett of Rufe, and Teresa McKeever of Broken Bow, OK; Dixie’s eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Willeford of Memphis, TN, Five brothers: Frank “J.R.” Mussett, Jr. and wife Jeannie of Wright City, OK, Lee Mussett and wife, Carolynn of Millerton, OK, Neal Mussett and wife, Lola of Rufe, Carol Wayne Mussett and wife, Jackie of Rufe, and Ricky Mussett and wife, Carol of Rufe; one aunt, Ruth (Jack) Reed of Valliant; numerous nieces and nephews along with many other relatives and friends.
     Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, April 28, 2006 at the Rufe Baptist Church, Rufe, OK with Bro. Hershel Reed officiating, assisted by Bro. Stanley Pope.
     Interment will follow at Rufe Cemetery, Rufe, OK with military honors rendered by the Southeast Oklahoma Veterans Honor Guard.
     The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Miller & Miller Funeral Home - Valliant, OK.

Dale Phillips Jr, 1961 - 2006

     Dale Phillips Jr, 44, of Broken Bow passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Idabel. He was born August 3, 1961 at Cuba, New Mexico to Dale Phillips Sr. and Ruth Valdez Phillips.
     Dale worked in the poultry industry for Tyson. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and arrowhead hunting. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. He was a member of the Catholic Church and a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emmitt and Lenora Phillips and maternal grandparents, Eliseo and Rafelita Valdez.
     Dale is survived by his parents, Dale Phillips Sr. and Ruth Phillips of Hollycreek; brother, Billy Phillips of Hollycreek; sisters and brother-in-law, Roxie Faizy of Salisburg, Maryland and Terri and Barry Zimmerman of Dexter, Missouri; 5 nieces; 2 nephews; 2 great-nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the Conley-White Chapel in Broken Bow with Bro. Ed Hurliman officiating. Interment will follow in the Smithville Cemetery at Smithville, Oklahoma.
     Family will receive friends FRIDAY, April 28, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred Meda Fuller, 1927 - 2006

     Mildred Meda Fuller, 78, Idabel passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006 in Madill,OK. She was born November 12, 1927 at Tom.
     Mildred was a lifetime resident of the community and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She began her business career as the secretary at the Idabel Chamber of Commerce. She took great pride in being a real-estate broker and banking. She began her banking career at the Idabel 1st State Bank and retired as a vice-president of McCurtain County National Bank. She enjoyed quilting, handcrafts, seamstress work and loved preparing holiday meals and hosting special occasions for her family and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, W.O. and Myrtle Mowery; husband, Rufus Eugene Fuller; son, Rickey Derriell Fuller; three infant children and one sister, Ollie Jean Roberts.
     She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, David Fuller and wife Janet, Madill,OK.; one daughter, Marsha Juett, Irvine, CA.; daughter-in-law, Wavelene Fuller, Paducah, KY.; special niece, Jeannie Chadwick, Idabel, OK.; two brothers, Bill Mowery, Broken Bow, OK., W.O. Mowery, Big Sandy, TX.; one sister, Charlene Mowery, McAlester,OK.; seven grandchildren, Vickey Rynn Rodgers, Idabel, OK., Summer Gammill, Jeromy Chaffin and Jackson Cross all of Madill, OK., Scott Nelson, Council Hill, OK., Chad Nelson and Eugene Juett both of Costa Mesa, CA.; seven great-grandchildren, Rickey Fields, Blake Nelson, B.J. Michael Mills, 1961 - 2006

     Michael Mills, 44, of Valliant, Oklahoma, went to be with; the Lord Sunday, April 23, 2006. He passed away in his home. He was born August 3, 1961 in Wichita Falls, Texas the son of Murray Mills and Doris (Wright) Mills and had lived in Valliant since 1989.
     He was Associate Pastor, youth pastor and member of Spirit Rock Church, Millerton, OK. He enjoyed preaching, loved his children, worked on God’s time and could turn any conversation into a sermon. He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping, was an excellent cook, and enjoyed spending time with the youth of the community.
     His father preceded him in death.
     Michael is survived by his mother, Doris Mills of Millerton; his wife, Ranae Mills of Valliant; two sons, Dewayne Kristopher Jarold Mills of Norfolk, VA, and Micah Ray Mills of Holly Creek, OK; three daughters, Emily Megan Mills-Rubio of Phoenix, AZ, Jennifer Pratt of Valliant, Amanda Murphy of Valliant; two brothers: R. Kent Mills of Wichita Falls, TX and Joel Mills of New Boston, TX; one sister: Cheryl McCauley of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Miller & Miller Funeral Chapel - Valliant, OK with Bro. Troy Ruffin officiating.
     Interment will follow at Ringold Cemetery, Ringold, OK

Juanita Blair, 1918 - 2006

     Juanita Blair, 87, of Swink, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006 at Hugo. She was born December 2, 1918 in Electra, Texas the daughter of Robert and Etta Ruth Langfit Chesher.
     Juanita was an accomplished poet, having several of her poems published. She enjoyed bowling, and was a successful Tupperware and Stanley dealer for several years. She was the former owner of the Tourist Café and James Café in Valliant, and the Busy Bee Diner in Hugo. Juanita was a member of the Valliant Church of Christ, and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Palmer Blair; 1 brother and 6 sisters.
     Juanita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Mildred Blair of Ft. Towson; daughter and son-in-law, Avis and Ed Dahl of Swink; grandchildren and spouses, Lonnie Wayne and Amanda Dahl of Sache, Texas, Tim and Audra Dahl of Midlothian, Texas, Ty and Judy Blair of Swink, and Quaylan Blair of Hugo; sisters and brother-in-law, Jetta and Bob Hight, Doris Adams, and Ruth Goode all of Austin, Texas, and Rena Lee Lloyd of Wichita Falls, Texas; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be on Thursday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Valliant Church of Christ in Valliant with Virgil Romine and Tracy Mussett officiating. Interment will follow in the Valliant Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the funeral home.

Mary Leona Tidwell, 1923 - 2006

     Mary Leona Tidwell, 82, of Idabel passed away April 22, 2006. She was born October 26, 1923, at Millerton to Jack and Elizabeth Jessie.
     Leona was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, beadwork and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She attended the Haworth Assembly of God.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Neoma Ives; and son-in-law, Clyde Ward.
     She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Pat Ward and Jerry Tidwell, and wife, Bobbie, all of Idabel, Glenda Smith, and husband, Walt, of Broken Bow, and Carol Davis, and husband, Ted, of Oklahoma City; brothers, Jack Jessie of Jewett, Texas, Arthur Jessie and Raymond Jessie, both of Bokchito, Oklahoma, and Joe Jessie of Broken Bow; sisters, Marie Sullivan and Jean Bowling, both of Jewett, Texas, and Helen Haan of Benicia, California; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
     Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the Redland Cemetery with Bryan Davis and Dick Logan officiating.
     The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Coleman Caldwell, 1916 - 2006

     Coleman Caldwell, 90, of Wright City, passed away April 22, 2006 at McCurtain Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow. Coleman was born April 19, 1916 in Rufe, OK the son of Willie J. and Mary Ann (Wallace) Caldwell.
     Coleman liked to read and he was a history and bible scholar. He loved to sing Choctaw hymns. He loved spending time with his family, friends, children, and grandchildren. He was affiliated with the Methodist faith.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. and Mary Ann Caldwell; wife, Eliza Aaron Caldwell; six brothers; three sisters; and two children.
     Coleman leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Cecil Caldwell and wife Nettie, Wright City, Ray Caldwell and wife Barbara, Paris, TX, and Aaron Caldwell and wife Cecilia, Broken Bow; daughter, Alice Marie Bishop and husband Richard, Valliant; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; many cousins; and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Goodwater Methodist Church in Sobol, OK. Interment will follow at Goodwater Cemetery. Rev. Rosa Baker will officiate.

Sam Sanderson, 1933 - 2006

     Sam Sanderson, 72, of Idabel, OK, passed away April 23, 2006 at Idabel, OK. He was born June 13, 1933, in Michigan, OH.
     Sam was a veteran in the United States Army. He worked at Brinkley Auction driving tractors. He enjoyed working in the garden, working on vehicles and spending time with family and friends.
     He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Josephine Sanderson and his parents, Verne and Lucile Sanderson.

Avon E. Bean, 1933 - 2006

     Avon E. Bean, 72, of Broken Bow, went to see Jesus on April 20, 2006. He was born July 2, 1933, in Montpellier, VT, the son of Earl and Lillian Erskine Bean.
     Avon worked as an agent at A&A Process Service. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force during Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Idabel Country Club. He loved to golf, fish, and hunt. Avon was affiliated with Trinity Baptist Church in Idabel.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lillian Bean; wife, Jeanette Lavanway; second wife, Carol Bean; and one infant twin brother.

Amber Lawrence and Eric Samis

     Amber Marie “Samis” Lawrence, 23, and Eric Lee Samis, 24, of Pickens, departed this life on April 17, 2006 at their residence. Amber was born on February 6, 1983 the daughter of Virgal Lawrence and Sherri Wilson. Eric was born on December 14, 1981, the son of Leroy Samis and Ella Louise Adams.
     Amber was preceded in death by her grandfather, Floyd Wilson; brother, Virgal Lee Lawrence Jr.; and uncle, Preston Lawrence. Eric was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Samis; brother, Larry Samis; and sisters, April Marie Allen and Ariel RaChelle Allen.
     Amber and Eric were both affiliated with the Baptist Church. Amber loved to read and cook. Eric loved to work on vehicles and fish. They were both wonderful parents who loved their children very much.
     Amber and Eric leave to cherish their memory their son, Raven Montana Samis; and daughters, Haillie RaChelle Samis, Jasmine Marie Samis, and Cleste Lee Samis. Amber is also survived by her mother, Sherri Wilson, Clebit; father, Virgal Lawrence, Oklahoma City; brothers, Robert James Davis, Clebit, and Virgal Don Lawrence, Durant; sisters, Virginia Rose Harrison and Krystal Alberta Lawrence, Cartwright, and Natasha Nicole Lawrence, Oklahoma City; and step-daughter, Juanita Harrison. Eric is also survived by his mother and step-father Ella Louise Adams and David Adams, Smithville; and step-sister, Amiee Adams, Durant. They are both survived by their grandparents, Sonny and Edith Scheidt, Lincoln, AR, Lois Lawrence, Cartwright, Ross Lawrence, Durant, Glen and Peggie Yugzy, Smithville, and Kerry and Sue Adams, Pickens; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
     Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2006 at Camp Israel Fulsom Church, Battiest. Interment will follow at County Line Cemetery, Pickens.

Agustin Castillo, 1932 - 2006

     Agustin Castillo, 73, of Idabel, passed away Monday, April 17, 2006 at his residence. He was born August 24, 1932 in Mexico.
     Agustin was employed by Tyson Foods and was well liked by his co-workers.
     Agustin is survived by a son, Gerardo Castillo of Idabel; many other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be on Saturday, April 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Conley-White Funeral Chapel in Idabel. Interment will follow in Agustin’s native country of Mexico.

Albert Crank, 1931 - 2006

     Albert “Al” Crank, 74, of the Forest Grove Community, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at his residence. He was born October 18, 1931 in the Forest Grove Community. He married Beverly Bridges in Carson City, Nevada on April 19, 1957.
     Al was a longtime Weyerhaeuser employee retiring in 1998. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed working on his property. Al was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Alver Crank and Louise Mixon; brothers, Wayne Crank, Walter Crank, and Allison Crank; and a step-mother, Katherine Crank.

Eugene Lee Strickland, 1924 - 2006

     Eugene Lee Strickland, 81, of Idabel, passed away at his home April 18, 2006. The sixth of seven children, Eugene was born December 3, 1924 in Ashland, (Boyd County), Kentucky, the son of John Thomas Strickland and Cora Frances Green Strickland. He moved to Detroit, Michigan and then later to San Antonio, Texas.
     Due to the financial crash of 1929, and the illness of his mother, he was placed in the Presbyterian Children’s Home, in Itasca, Texas through the sponsorship of the First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. He was 4 years old at the time and he remained in the home until he graduated from Itasca High School in May, 1943.
     He entered the college division of Schreiner Institute which is now called Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, in the fall of 1943, working on the school farm and dairy to defray expenses. He graduated from Schreiner in the summer of 1945, and entered Austin College in Sherman, Texas in the fall of 1945. He graduated in May, 1947 where he then went on to Austin Theological Seminary in September, 1947 and graduated May, 1950.
     After graduating, Eugene accepted a call to pastor the First Presbyterian Church and Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. He was ordained by Red River Presbytery on June 4, 1950. He accepted a call to First Presbyterian Church in Junction, Texas in May 1954, He served as Assistant Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lubbock, Texas from March 15, 1959 to December 31, 1960. He served the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron, Texas from January 1, 1961 to April 15, 1966 and then the First Presbyterian Church in Idabel, Oklahoma from April 15, 1966 until his retirement on December 31, 1988.
     Eugene and wife, Lanelle Winham were married June 24, 1954. Eugene was a member of the Rotary Club of Idabel since 1966 and editor of the club bulletin since 1966. He was active in the Idabel Ministerial Association, the Idabel Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, the Idabel Country Club, and in past years, he enjoyed taking part in the Idabel Community Theater. He also loved golfing. He was named “Citizen of the Year” in 1985 by the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. He served as Executive Director, Secretary-Treasurer for the E.T. Dunlap Center for Higher Education Foundation for many years. He served as Stated Supply Pastor for the Wheelock Presbyterian Church, Millerton, OK, the Pine Grove and New Shamrock Presbyterian Churches, Clarksville, TX, and First Presbyterian Church, Broken Bow, OK, at various times. He was a Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States in 1958, 1968, 1972, and 1982.
     Eugene was preceded in death by his mother and father, four brothers, one sister, and one daughter, Beth Kinnear.
     He is survived by his wife, Lanelle W. Strickland of Idabel, one son, Eugene Strickland, Jr. of Idabel, one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Danny Skelton of Quinta, CA, son-in-law, Robert Kinnear of Edmond, OK, and seven grandchildren, Lindsey Rebecca Strickland of Idabel, Elizabeth Logan, Casey Logan, and Grant Logan of LaQuinta, CA, Sara Kinnear, Amy Kinnear, and Jackson Kinnear of Edmond, OK.
     Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:00 Friday, April 21, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church. As a gift of remembrance to Eugene, the family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Goodland Presbyterian Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1056, Hugo, OK 74743-1056.

     Leroy Montgomery, 80, Wright City, passed away April 18, 2006 at the V. A. Hospital in Muskogee. Leroy was born October 10, 1925 in Oak Hill, OK the son of George and Lorene (Barnes) Montgomery.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lorene Montgomery; one daughter; one son; and sister, Georgie Mae McClain.
     Leroy was affiliated with the First Assembly of God, Wright City. He was a veteran who served our country in the United States Navy. He married Shirley Belle Ballard on August 9, 2003 in Wright City. Leroy loved fishing, gardening, landscaping, and spending time with his family and friends.
     Leroy leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shirley Montgomery, Wright City; step-son, Larry Joe Wilkerson, Wright City; step-daughter, Earlene Farley, Idabel; brothers, Don Montgomery, Wright City, George Montgomery Jr., Junction City, OR, and Dale Montgomery, Roseburg, OR; sisters, Bobbie Ogbin, Albany, OR, and Billie Jean Helmstrand, Christmas Valley, OR; step-grandsons, Shawn White and Jason White; step-granddaughter, Gina Marie Elliot; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2006, at the First Assembly of God Church, Wright City. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006, at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, OK. Bro. Scott Stuart will officiate.
     The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Brumley Funeral Home, Broken Bow, OK.

Margaret O'Rear, 1919 - 2006

     Margaret O’Rear, 86 of Idabel, Okla. passed away April 16, 2006. Margaret was born November 8, 1919 in Pollard, Okla. to John and Julia Wilmoth Pollard.
     Margaret lived her entire lifetime in McCurtain County. An avid fisherman and bowler, she had retired from the Idabel National Bank after thirty + years of service. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
     Mrs. O’Rear was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, and 2 sons Kenneth and Wayland.
     Surviving family includes: Grandchildren and spouses: Kelly Shipp, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Keith and Tracy O’Rear, Idabel, OK; Kim O’Rear, Dallas, TX; Kent and Cassie O’Rear, Dallas, TX; Kasey and David Phillips, Idabel, OK; Jesse O’Rear, Idabel, OK; Kristen O’Rear, Dallas, TX; and Eight Great-Grandchildren.

Ray "Bull" Lauderdale, 1942 - 2006

     Ray “Bull” Lauderdale, age 63, of the Hollycreek Community, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006 at his residence. He was born June 9, 1942 at Altus, Oklahoma.
     Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and enjoyed repairing CB radios and lawn mowers. He was affiliated with the Baptist Faith and had lived in this area for 30 years.
     He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Ray Lauderdale.
     Ray is survived by his mother, Orah Vernice Neher of Denver, Colorado; a daughter and son-in-law, Nellie and Michael Blankenship of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; a granddaughter, Patricia Gable of Rush Springs; a great-granddaughter, Kaliegh Simpson of Ravenden, Arkansas; a brother, Jerry Weldon of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Beverly Snow of Denver, Colorado; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Joan Marie Williams, 1957 - 2006

     Joan Marie Williams, 48, of Broken Bow, passed away April 11, 2006. She was born August 22, 1957 in DeQueen, Ark to James and Lois Laxton. Joani was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her flowerbeds, and playing with her animals. She loved more than anything being a mother and grandmother.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lois Laxton; sister, Gloria Jean “Jeannie” Laxton; aunts, Mary Jackson and Edna Wallace; uncles, Junior Ray Laxton, Curtis McKee, and Jack Laxton; grandparents, Roy and Idabel Marie McKee and Bill and Beulah Laxton; and sister-in-law and friend, Glenda Williams.

     Geraldine Friend, 79, of Idabel, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006 at her residence in Idabel. She was born May 22, 1926 at Redland, the daughter of Richard and Myrtle Smith Saul. Geraldine married Harvey Friend on February 14, 1975 in Hugo.
     Geraldine was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing and gardening. Geraldine was a member of the Redland Methodist Church and a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronnie Dollar; and a sister, Dovie Hammonds.
     Geraldine is survived by her husband, Harvey Friend of Idabel; a daughter, Sherry DeGase of Tahlequah; a step-son, Harvey Dwayne Friend of Oklahoma City; a step-daughter, Diana Friend of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Tammy Sherrell, Sandra DeGase, Shauna DeGase, Damien Baldridge, and Dakota Baldridge; sister, Irene Marvel of Wisconsin; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
     Services will be on Saturday, April 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Conley-White Funeral Chapel in Idabel with Rev. Gene Van Alstyne officiating. Interment will follow in the Redland Cemetery.

     Effie Harrison, 99, of Wright City, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Broken Bow. She was born March 12, 1907 in Red River County, Texas to Wilson and Annie Hankins Barnett.
     Effie was a homemaker, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and crafts. She was a member of the Valliant Church of Christ and was a devout Christian. She was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen Harrison in 1986; a son, Earl Allen Harrison; and 3 sisters.
     Effie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wilburn and Mary Harrison and Boyce and Charlene Harrison all of Wright City; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Lewis Cantrell of Sobol, Oklahoma and Betty and Benton Moore of Broken Bow; brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Laura Barnett of Oklahoma City; sisters, Iola Pinson of Winsborough, Texas, Dorothy Halcom of Springfield, Ohio, Loraine “Gee” Logan of Wright City; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Jessie V. Gammon, 1916 - 2006

     Jessie V. Gammon 90, Broken Bow passed away April 11, 2006 at the Broken Bow Nursing Home. Jessie was born March 6, 1916 in Cerrogorda, AR the daughter of John and Agnes Brazil.
     She was preceded in death by her parents John and Agnes Brazil, husband, C.T. Gammon, one brother Charles Brazil, two step sons Haskel and Hoyt Gammon, one granddaughter, Salena Hagen.
     Jessie was affiliated with the Light House Assembly of God, Broken Bow. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, sewing, homemaking, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
     She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Axton, Pickens and Gwen Hardin, Kosse, TX; two step-sons, Hobert and Hubert Gammon both of Broken Bow; fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, one nephew and a host of friends.
     Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13, 2006, at the Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow. Interment will follow at Battiest Cemetery, Battiest, Oklahoma. Rev. James Dodd will officiate.

Suellen Moore, 1945 - 2006

     Suellen Moore, 61, of Broken Bow, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006 at her home. She was born March 12, 1945 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Chester and Myrtle Olivia McNeer Labor.
     Suellen was an active member of the Charity Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was executive secretary at Pine Telephone Company, starting in 1991. She worked first for Jewell Callaham then for Esta Callaham Baez. She was a long time resident of McCurtain County coming from Tulsa.
     She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bob Bennett.
     Suellen leaves to cherish her memory her sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne Anderson of Broken Bow and Kevin and Janet Anderson of McCurtain; daughter, Jehree Anderson of McCurtain, Oklahoma; brothers, Harold Labor of Broken Arrow and Arron Labor of Hartshorne; sisters, Mary Alverson of Hartshorne, Doretta Jones of Knoxville, TN. and Ofreda Labor of Maryland; 8 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Lucille Butler, 1908 - 2006

     Lucille Folsom Butler, 97, passed away at her home in Idabel, Sunday morning April 9, 2006 after a brief illness. She was born on August 22, 1908 in Caddo Oklahoma, the daughter of Carl and Nannie Folsom, both of whom were members of prominent Choctaw families. Her great, great-grandfather was Peter P. Pitchlyn, Principal Chief of the Choctaw Tribe. She was very proud of her Choctaw heritage.
     Lucille graduated from Caddo High School in 1927, then enrolled at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. It was there that she met Malcolm Butler, and the two were married on December 28, 1928 in Lawton. After graduating from Southeastern with their teaching degrees, she and her husband returned to McCurtain County and began their teaching careers. Subsequently Mr. Butler began a long business and ranching career in Idabel, and Mrs. Butler became a committed and caring homemaker.
     After moving to Idabel, she and her husband joined the First Presbyterian Church. She was an active and loyal member until her death. She loved her church and served whenever and wherever needed.
     She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Malcolm Butler, and her brothers, Gordon Folsom and Carl Folsom, Jr. She is survived by three sons, Malcolm Butler, Jr., Roger Butler, and James Butler, as well as by three daughters-in-law, Patsy Butler, Shirley Butler, and Debbie Butler all of Idabel. She is also survived by two nephews, Gordon Folsom, Jr. of Tulsa and R.D. Folsom of Arlington, Virginia, 8 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
     Visitation is scheduled with the family at Norwood Funeral Home today April 11, 2006 from 7:00 to 8:00p.m.
     Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Idabel, under the direction of Norwood Funeral Home.      Interment will follow at Denison Cemetery.

Alfred Roath, 1938 - 2006

     Alfred “Sonny” Roath, 67, of Broken Bow, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Paris, Texas. He was born May 8, 1938 at Broken Bow to Ellis and Margaret Moore Roath. He married Soon Kim at Seoul, South Korea on October 28, 1963. He had lived in Mc Curtain County for 29 years coming from California.
     Sonny was a diesel mechanic who worked at Tyson Foods for 18 years. He was affiliated with the Oak Hill Independent Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed carpentry and watching TV, especially westerns.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill Roath, Joe Roath, and Steven Roath; and a sister, Ima Jean Martz.
     Sonny is survived by his wife Soon of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Kelvin Moseman of Flower Mound, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky Roath of Tulsa, Grumpy and Susan Roath of Wright City, Floyd and Judy K Roath of Heavener; sister, Loretta Roath of Broken Bow; grandchildren Emma and Erika Moseman of Flower Mound, Texas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Barbara Heismeyer, 1943 - 2006

     Barbara “Deana” Heismeyer, 63, of Idabel, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Idabel. She was born January 17, 1943 at Bokchito, the daughter of U.P. Lindley Sr. and Francille Anderson Lindley.
     Barbara was a Registered Nurse and for 12 years had taught at the Vo Tech. and the E.T. Dunlap Center until recently retiring. She received her B.S. Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and her Masters Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. Barbara enjoyed knitting, reading and her dogs “Bo” and “D.J.”. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and had lived in Idabel for 20 years moving from Garden City, Kansas.
     She was preceded in death by her father, U.P. Lindley Sr.
     Barbara is survived by her mother, Francille Lindley of Idabel; a brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Kathy Lindley of Guthrie; a niece and her husband, Kaci and Tommy Murray of Piedmont; a nephew and his wife, Pat and Jackie Lindley of Noble; 7 great nieces and nephews; an uncle and his wife, Bob and Beverly Anderson of Quitman, Texas; many other relatives, a host of friends and former students.

Mike Whitaker, 1937 - 2006

     Mike S. Whitaker passed away Friday, March 31, 2006 at Paris Regional Medical Center, Paris, Texas. He was born March 20, 1937 at Valliant to Flossie Whitaker and Cleavester Harris.
     Mike enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles. He was president of the motorcycle club, Long Beach Berets, for a number of years. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce while he lived in Compton, Calif. In Idabel, he was a member of the Minority Action Committee. He served in the United States Marines and was the recipient of military honors while in the service.
     Mike is survived by five brothers, Clifford Whitaker and Lewis Whitaker, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Cleavester Harris, Jr., Atoka, Okla., Ronnie Harris (Carolyn), Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kenneth Harris (Nona), Paris, Tex.; four sisters, Carolyn Allen (Ronnie), Guthrie, Okla., Darlene Harris, Idabel, Okla., Patsy (Whitaker) Bennett, Hugo, Okla., and Cynthia Harris, Oklahoma City, Okla., one step granddaughter, Crystal Brown, Idabel, and a host of other relatives and friends.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleavester Harris, Sr. and Flossie Whitaker; three brothers, Leon Whitaker, Jack Whitaker and Lewis Burrell, and one sister, Gracie Cheatham.
     Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 8 at 11 a.m. at Olive Branch Baptist Church, Valliant, with Rev. Donald Wagoner officiating. Interment will follow at Wheelock Academy Cemetery, Millerton, Oklahoma.

Chip Lappin, 1960 - 2006

     Chip Gale Edwin Lappin, 46, of Idabel, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, TX. He was born February 3, 1960 in Dallas, TX, the son of Bernard Joseph and Bettie Jean Whitten Lappin.
     Chip enjoyed working with electronics, building, and was an excellent carpenter. He loved spending time with family and friends.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Bettie Jean Lappin, and his sister Sheila Kay Bone.

B. E. Carney, 1937 - 2006

     B. E. Carney, 69, of Eagletown, OK passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born March 3, 1937 in Cleveland, TX to Elmo and Nettie (Lewis) Carney.
     B. E. moved to this area in November of 1965. He worked for 16 years at Dierks-Weyerhaeuser as an Electrical Supervisor in Craig, OK and then taught at Kiamichi Tech. Center for 19 years. He married Gloria Hunt on December 20, 1986 in Jacinto City, TX. He was a member of A.V.A., O.V.A., NATTII, and the Instrument Society of America. He was a past member of the Eagletown Board of Education and the McCurtain County Fair Board. He loved fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. He was associated with the Eagletown Assembly of God.
     He was preceded in death by his parents Elmo and Nettie Carney; sisters, Patsy Lee Jackson and Betty Lou Davis; and son, Patrick Alan Carney, Sr.

     Hershel Acord, 85, of Idabel, passed away Friday, March 31, 2006 in Texarkana, Texas. He was born February 10, 1921 in Dyer, Arkansas to Charles and Ada Acord.
     Hershel moved to Idabel in 1994. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Grace Assembly of God Church.
     Hershel was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lavern Acord, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.

Lee Volker, 1927 - 2006

     Having lived a full and faith-filled life, Lee Earl Volker 78, Plano, TX. went to be the Lord on April 1, 2006. Born on May 8, 1927, to Chet Volker and Georgia Forney-Volker, Lee grew up in Reno County, Kansas.
     He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
     He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Betty Volker; son Johnny Volker and wife Evelyne; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Randy Beaver, Janet and Rich Oliver and Penny and Rex Hawver; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one step-great-grandchild; sister Nancy Roberts and husband Gary; sister-in-law, Virginia Gilley; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Alberta Brown and special friends Libby and Jon Stucky.
     In September 1948, Lee married the love of his life Betty Volker. He celebrated life and cared for all living creatures. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. Lee was a devoted husband, father and a doting grandfather.
     He was a member of the First Christian Church in Idabel and Grace Community Church in Plano, TX. Lee had many friends in many places. He was known to all for being a gracious and hardworking man with a lively sense of humor. Lee will be deeply missed by the many who loved him.
     Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Idabel with Pastor Bud Wilburn and Pastor Steve Lucas officiating. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006 in Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, TX.
     Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home, Idabel.
     In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to First Christian Church, Idabel or the SPCA of McKinney, TX. in care of Brumley Funeral Home, Idabel.

Cora McGowen, 1931 - 2006

     Cora McGowen, 75, of Wright City, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006 at her home. She was born January 2, 1931 at Tahlequah, OK to Albert and Ellen Stanley Hobbs.
     Cora was a member of the Wright City First Assembly of God Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed eating out and spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jessie McGowen; and brothers, Bill Hobbs and Gene Hobbs.
     Cora leaves to cherish her memory her daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Wendell Eason of Wright City; grandsons, Jimmy Eason and Jessie Eason and wife, DeShelia of Wright City; great-grandchildren, Justin Eason and Morgan Eason of Wright City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Sue Hobbs of Valliant, Alvin and Juanita Hobbs of Tuttle, and Jesse Ray Hobbs and wife of Tahlequah; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
     Services will be Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Wright City with Bro. Randy Watkins and Bro. Troy Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Slater Memorial Cemetery.
     The family will receive friends and family at daughter’s home.
