JoAnn Currence, 1939 - 2006
JoAnn Currence, 67, of Idabel, passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Dallas, Texas. She was born Oct. 12, 1939, in Ft. Towson. She married Jerry Currence on Dec. 22, 1959, in Ft. Towson. JoAnn was a 1960 graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant.
JoAnn devoted her life to teaching children. She had taught English in the Idabel Public School System for over 30 years. JoAnn enjoyed traveling and reading. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Idabel, Oklahoma Retired Teacher’s Association, and was a lifetime resident of this area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Hopson and Verlie Roberts; and a sister, Carolyn Sue Noble.
JoAnn leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Jerry Currence of Idabel; son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Laurie Currence of Granbury, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Mande Sue and Clint Marcum of Durant; grandchildren, Taylor Marcum of Durant, Chelsea Currence of Kansas City, Mo., Austin Williams and Emily Williams both of Granbury, Texas; sister and brothers-in-law, Patricia Ann and Jack Gorczyca of Harrah, Okla., and Jack Noble of Sherman, Texas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
The celebration of JoAnn’s life will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Idabel with the Rev. Donna Dodson officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Towson Cemetery in Ft. Towson.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.

Helen Mitchell, 1918 - 2006
Helen Mitchell, 88, of Idabel, passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Idabel. She was born July 16, 1918, in Columbus, Ark., the daughter of Ollice and Oppie Nelson Mitchell.
Helen was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family. She was a faithful member of the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church and was a lifetime resident of this area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bacil Holloway, and Joe Mitchell; and four brothers and sisters.
Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Diane Holloway of Rockwall, Texas; grandchildren and spouses, Mark and Kim Holloway of Mesquite, Texas, and DeAnn and Kenneth Barnwell of College Station, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jaclyn Baker of Watauga, Texas, Jessica Conway of Keller, Texas, and Kyle Wilson of Mesquite, Texas; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Nan Milsap of Hot Springs, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services were on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Pollard Missionary Baptist Church in the Pollard Community. Interment followed in the Pollard Cemetery.

Carol M. Hill, 1944 - 2006
Carol M. Hill, 62, of Broken Bow passed away Friday, January 26, 2007 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 23, 1944 in Broken Bow, the daughter of Fred and Lorene Moore Mims. Carol married Jerry Hill on April 16, 1971 in Idabel.
Carol worked for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a secretary and retired after 29 years of service. She was an avid Barbie doll collector and enjoyed going to the casino. Carol was a member of the Broken Bow First Baptist Church and was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carol is survived by her husband Jerry Hill of Broken Bow; aunt and uncle, Dorothy and William Christian of Dallas; cousins, Col. (Ret) and Mrs John E. Stice of Huntsville, Texas, Don Newton of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Mack Newton of Ashdown, Arkansas and the Stewart’s of the Holly Creek Community; a very special friend, Barbara Marshall of Dallas; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow with Rev. Oscar Wilkie officiating.

Carol Cameron, 1946 - 2007
Carol Cameron, 60, of the Pleasant Hill Community, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2007 at her home. She was born September 13, 1946 at Dumas, TX, the daughter of David and Evelyn Wright Young. On March 17, 1993 she married Dannie Cameron at DeQueen, AR. She was affiliated with the First Missionary Baptist Church of Haworth. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Carol and her family moved from Texas to Oklahoma and back several times until finally settling in the area in 1981. She worked as a secretary for the U.S. Forestry Department until her illness no longer permitted.
She was an antique collector. She collected tin cans of all kinds, porcelain dolls and her most recent interest was collecting roosters. She loved reading and listening to gospel music.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, David Young, youngest brother, Terry Young and her oldest brother, David Henry Young.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Dannie Cameron of the home; daughters, Evelyn Herring of Hatfield, AR and Donna Griffin of Haworth; mother, Evelyn Young of Haworth; brothers and sister-in-law, Martin and Linda Young of Garvin and Johnny Young of Greenriver, WY; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jack Ferguson of Haworth; 5 grandchildren, Kasi Dollarhyde, Chance Allen, Domingo Perez, Daine Griffin, Stormey Barnett; 5 great-grandchilden; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services were at 2:00, Monday, January 22, 2007 at the Haworth Cemetery with Bro. Richard Sullivant officiating.
The family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Violet “Pearl” Potts, 1918 - 2007
Violet “Pearl” Potts, 88, of Broken Bow, passed away Tuesday January 16, 2007 at Broken Bow. She was born November 6, 1918 to Otto and Gracie Maude Fryer Pratt at Blackgum, Oklahoma. She married Pettus Potts at Idabel on November 5, 1938.
Pearl was a sales clerk in Broken Bow for many years. She was a long time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow and a lifetime resident of McCurtain County. Pearl was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memory her husband,
Pettus Potts of Broken Bow; daughters and son-in-law, Myrna Caplinger, Nora Austin,
Joyce and Frank Meddock, all of Broken Bow and Neva Ann Kegley of Claremore;

Friday, January 19, 2007 at the First Assembly of God Church in Broken
Bow.

Joe J. Salazar, 1945 - 2007
Joe J. Salazar, 61, of Battiest passed away Monday, January 8, at Battiest. He was born November 8, 1945 to Claudia and Fedila Deliaon Salazar at Houston, Texas. He married Rodie Tonihka on September 5, 1981 at Houston.
Bro. Joe was in ministry for over 30 years.
He worked with children's ministry, bus ministry and pastored for 23 years.
He loved preaching and teaching God's word and fellowshipping with family
and friends. He was a member of the Parkwood Baptist Church in Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rhodie, of the home; a daughter, Claudia Salazar of Battiest; step-son and daughter-in-law, Solomon and LaVon Tonihka of Wright City; step-grandchildren, Rochieda Tonihka and Shineesta Tonihka of Wright City; brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda Salazar of Spring, Texas; sister, Dorothy Hernandez of Houston; numerous nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services will be Thursday, January 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Conley- White Chapel in Broken Bow with Rev. Jay Sparks and Rev. Mike Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Watkins Family Cemetery in Wright City.

William “Perry” Virgin, 1929-2007
Perry Virgin, 77, Idabel, OK, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007 at his home. He was born April 9, 1929 at Oak Hill Community, the son of John and Carrie (Warren) Virgin.
Perry Virgin and Patsy McCarty were united in marriage on June 3, 1958 in Hugo, Oklahoma. Before retirement, Perry worked as a planer man for both Dierks Lumber Co. in Wright City, OK. and then for another 34 years in Kremmling, CO. Perry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, and hunting. He was affiliated with the Wright City First Assembly of God Church. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Carrie Virgin; two brothers, Warren Virgin and Bobby Virgin; one sister, Zenora Thomas; one grandson, Garrett Beason .
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Patsy Virgin, of the home; two sons and daughters- in-law, Gary and Becky Beason, Kremmling, CO., William and Myrna Virgin, Aurora, CO.; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Larry Brady, Wright City, OK.; two brothers, James and Pat Virgin, Broken Bow, OK., Wayne Virgin, Hollycreek Community; two sisters, Inez Hicks, Ringold, LA., Lorene Gibson, Oak Hill Community; eleven grandchildren, Alysia Beason, Alaina Goble, Brandon Beason, Tiffany Beason, Erin Beason, Tara Janzen, Brandi Hill, Joseph Brady, John Perry Virgin, Abigail Virgin, and Jeffrey Virgin; one great-grandson, Dusty Beason; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

James Warren Edwards, 1919 - 2006
James Warren Edwards , 87, of
Omaha, TX passed away December 28, 2006 at Houston, TX after a long
struggle with Alzheimer’s
Disease. He was born in Fort Worth, TX on December 6, 1919. He married
Helen Witt in 1940 in Oklahoma where their 3 children were born.
After serving in the military during WWII, he raised his family in Southern California then returned to Texas in the early 70’s. Though he worked for oil companies for most of his life, he was also a professional boxer in his youth. Jim won the Golden Gloves Championship of Kansas at the age of 19. In the early 1950’s he invented and held the first patent on the “Optic Level” a tool now obsolete, but previously used worldwide.
In 1957 Jim moved his family to Punta Arenas, Chile for 2 years where he worked for Santa Fe Drilling Co. Helen accompanied him while living and working in Peru, Mexico and Two Stints in Israel, as Superintendent of Israel’s Offshore Drilling Ship. He also worked for drilling companies in Venezuela, Greece and Iraq. He and Helen both enjoyed their world travel, but particularly loved the time spent in the Holy Lands where they had close Jewish and Palestinian friends. During the 1960’s, while working in Nevada at the Atomic Energy Commission Test Site, Jim became a 32nd Degree Mason.
Upon retiring in Omaha, TX, Jim ran his own Water Well Drilling Company and raised cattle. He was a respected Elder of the Life Tabernacle Church of Naples, TX where he attended with his wife, Helen, and then later his wife Melba Hammonds Edwards who he married after Helen’s death.
Jim was a generous, affectionate, good natured man who loved people and life. He lived an unusual and interesting life and was always full of fun and fascinating tales. He love to dance, travel, drive in the rain, and plant things, but most of all, he loved to laugh and that was always contagious. His sweet smiling face was present throughout his illness and will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Helen Witt Edwards of Omaha, TX and brother, Mack Edwards of Nacona, TX.
He is survived by his wife, Melba Edwards of Texarkana, TX; sons, Pat Edwards of Houston, TX and Mike Edwards of Garden Grove, CA; daughter Marlys Edwards of Portland, OR; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Family visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Conley-White Funeral Home in Idabel. Services are set for
2:00 pm Friday, January 4, 2007 at Redland Church of Christ , Redland, Oklahoma.

Martha E. Lawrence, 1916 - 2006
Martha E. Lawrence, 90, Broken Bow, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2006, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Idabel, OK. She was born September 7, 1916, in Hope, AR, the daughter of Samuel and Rebecca Andrews.
Martha enjoyed homemaking, sewing, and she loved her cat, Tom. She was affiliated with First Assembly of God, Broken Bow.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Rebecca Andrews; husbands, Fred Mouser and Haskell Lawrence; two brothers, Earl Andrews and Earnest Andrews; three sisters, Hazel Andrews, Mary Andrews, and Edna Delay.
Martha leaves to cherish her memory her nieces, Dorothy Baird, Winston, OR and Helen West, Grants Pass, OR.
Services will be at 10:00 am Friday, January 5, 2006 at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, with Brother Randy Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hope, AR.

Jesse "Red" Harris, 1933 - 2006
Jesse "Red" Harris, 73, of Broken Bow,
passed away December 30, 2006 at his residence. He was born December
18, 1933, in Broken Bow, OK the son of Andrew Jackson Harris and Callie
(Shields) Harris.
Red was affiliated with the Baptist Faith and was a member of the Broken Bow Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Red married Mary Jo Whitehead August 6, 1956 in Hugo, OK and had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Callie Harris; son, Kenneth Lee Harris; three brothers and five sisters.

Robert Howard Hudson, 1936 - 2006
Robert Howard Hudson, 70, of Oklahoma City, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006, at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born February 15, 1936 in Eagletown, OK the son of George Howard Hudson and Ada Bell (Ayers) Simmons.
Robert and Inez Clinton were united in marriage on January 10, 1994, in Durant, OK. He was affiliated with the Baptist faith. He served our country in the United States Army. He loved woodworking, collecting antiques and spending time outdoors. Family was priority in his life, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Howard Hudson and Ada Bell Simmons; first wife, Ann Hudson; sister, Mildred Benbow; and nephew, James Webb.

Doris J. Gallegos, 1948 - 2006
Doris J. Gallegos, 58, Watson, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006 at her home in Watson. She was born July 29, 1948, at Dallas, TX, the daughter of Melvin and Ozelle (Brannam) Johnson.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening but most of all she loved spending quality time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Ozelle (Brannam) Johnson; husband, Raul R. Gallegos; son, Karl Frank Schell; grandson, Eric Devin Schell.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Roy Allen Gallegos and wife Sarah, Mansfield, TX.; daughters, Regina Phillips and husband Jerold, Plunkettville, OK., Rachel Schell, Denton, TX., Rebecca Schell, Wickes, AR., Brittani R. Warren, Watson, OK., Abigail R. Warren, Watson, OK.; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
